Channel Nine finance reporter Chris Kohler ‘the new Kochie’; being primed for Today

Has Channel Nine found its own Kochie? The handsome financial reporter Chris Kohler has served as an anchor for Weekend Today, and the heads of the network are very impressed.

David Koch is the success story that few in the television industry saw coming.

The financial journalist was an unlikely choice when he was promoted to co-host of Sunrise in 2002, but he has held the position for two decades and is seen as a key factor in the ratings success of the Channel Seven show.

And now it looks like another Nine Network reporter might be earmarked for a top breakfast TV job: Chris Kohler.

Kohler has been co-hosting Weekend Today with Belinda Russell and others for the past few weeks, and Nine executives are said to be impressed.

He flew from Melbourne to Sydney for the temporary role and his transition from financial reporter to all-round presenter has been a success, reports tv black box.

While Karl Stefanovic is committed to hosting the weekday edition of Today for the foreseeable future, rumor has it that Kohler could be a contender one day.

It comes after Allison Langdon stepped down as co-host of the Today show last month.
