Channel Nine boss reveals the REAL reason why The Block auctions bombed and how some contestants never had the chance to sell their homes – as one is still on the market
The Block: Tree Change ended with one of the wildest finales in the show’s 18-year history.
The final auctions were heartbreak and triumph for the five teams – with Omar and Oz selling their reno for $5,666,666 to frequent buyer Danny Wallis, with a record winning $1.6 million.
Rachel and Ryan came in second with $169,000 in winnings, while Tom and Sarah-Jane pocketed just $20,000.
Jenny and Dylan’s home was passed on, as was Sharon and Ankur’s, though the latter pair secured a private sale less than a week after the auction.
Nine Programming Director Hamish Turner told TV tonight that many of the couples didn’t stand a chance of selling their home in the current market.

“But I think sometimes the journey is also a big part of where the joy comes from.”
