Channel Nine axes food show Snackmasters after just two seasons

EXCLUSIVE: Channel Nine ends popular show after just two seasons – but fights to keep one of the presenters for ‘future projects’

Channel Nine has tied the knot on its family-friendly cooking show, Snackmasters, after just two seasons and ten episodes.

Based on a British format of the same name, Snackmasters commissioned skilled chefs to recreate the taste of Australia’s best-loved snacks.

The chefs competed to recreate the famous Hungry Jack’s Whopper, Cadbury Cherry Ripe, Cheese Twisties, Tim Tams and more.

The series was co-hosted by restaurateur Scott Pickett and MasterChef alum Poh Ling Yeow, with Gogglebox star Yvie Jones presenting excerpts from food factories explaining how the nation’s favorite snacks are made.

“Snackmasters is not scheduled for 2023,” Nine said in a statement to Daily Mail Australia on Friday.

The news comes after Subway’s ratings dropped to a disappointing 311,000 by the end of the second season.

Consisting of only four episodes, the first season premiered in November 2021 to a decent audience in five cities of 603,000, but this soon dropped to 453,000 by the finale.

The six-episode second season began airing in December 2022, with an average nightly metro audience of 356,000.

Insiders say Nine Ling would like to keep Yeow on its talent roster for unspecified “future projects,” but there are no plans for Pickett and Jones.

Rumors that Nine were developing a local version of Snackmasters began swirling in August 2021, and the series was later confirmed at the network’s Upfronts presentation the following month.

The show was generally well received, with viewers praising Poh as a likeable host.

However, some fans criticized the heavy-handed product placement, calling the first episode of season one ‘Australia’s longest Hungry Jacks ad’.
