Channel 10 stars including Sarah Harris ‘quietly miffed’ Robert Irwin is nominated for a Gold Logie over TV stars with ‘more status and experience’
Robert Irwin’s Gold Logie nomination at this year’s 64th annual TV Week Logie Awards continues to ruffle feathers.
The 20-year-old wildlife warrior has become one of the youngest ever to be considered for the prestigious award, which recognizes the best in Australia’s TV industry.
His nomination comes just months after he made his debut as co-host of Network 10’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, alongside Julia Morris.
Robert is up against TV veterans Morris, Larry Emdur, Sonia Kruger, Asher Keddie, Andy Lee and Tony Armstrong, and according to New Idea the move has caused a stir.
“No one is saying that Robert is unknown in the television world, but the Gold Logie is usually reserved for TV talents with more status and experience,” a TV insider told New Idea.
“It took more than 30 years for Sonia Kruger to win gold (in 2023), so there is a feeling that other stars, such as TV legend Hamish Blake or Lynne McGranger, may have been more deserving,” the source added.
The insider claimed some Network 10 stars may be “quietly pissed” that he was recognised so early.
‘Sarah Harris has been so loyal to Ten. She took over Carrie Bickmore’s role in The Project and kept going when negative publicity threatened to derail the show. Yet she has been overlooked. She will no doubt feel a little neglected,’ they said.

The source even claimed that the conservationist co-star Morris will have “thoughts” after her third nomination for Gold.
Last Monday, Home and Away’s Lynne McGranger, 71, took a swipe at Robert following his nomination in the Most Popular Personality category when she commented on his lack of TV experience.
On Instagram, Lynne shared her surprise that the budding star was also in the running.
Robert is up against TV veterans Morris, Larry Emdur, Sonia Kruger, Asher Keddie, Andy Lee and Tony Armstrong and according to New Idea the nomination has raised eyebrows
‘I’m sorry, but old mate Irwin’s been on telly for a damn minute!! No disrespect intended,” she wrote in a cheeky swipe.
Her comment came in support of her friend Larry, 59, who took to Instagram to share a funny conversation he had with his friend following his nomination.
Although Robert has only just started his career on TV, he is already competing for the Bert Newton Award for most popular presenter.
In this category he will once again be competing against his co-hosts Julia, Larry, Sonia and Tony, as well as popular star Hamish Blake.
“No one is saying that Robert is a stranger to television, but the Gold Logie is usually reserved for TV talents with more status and experience,” a TV insider told New Idea.
The 64th annual Logie Awards will be hosted by comedian Sam Pang and will take place in Sydney on August 18.
This year the event will be broadcast on Channel 7.
