Channel 10 star Liz Cantor reveals shock health scare just weeks before her mother was diagnosed with cancer

Channel 10 News First Queensland Liz Cantor has revealed she suffered a terrifying health crisis just weeks before learning her mother had been diagnosed with cancer.

The 41-year-old mother of three said her family ordeal began after she discovered a lump on her breast while showering.

After passing a series of tests, the results were negative. But her relief was short-lived when she received the grim news about her mother Becky just a month later.

“I will never forget it, those moments in life are an imprint, they are never lost,” Liz said in a new interview with the Gold Coast Bulletin.

She continued, “I was just pulling into the driveway at home after a weather report from 10 News and my phone rang and it was mom and dad together telling me she had cancer.

‘I just couldn’t believe it. She is only 70 and loves running. She’s been running half marathons because she said she wants to make sure she’s fit and fit for a long time so she can be with the grandkids.”

Liz revealed that her mother has advanced pancreatic cancer after initially being told it was pancreatitis, an inflammation of the pancreas.

A family member who is a doctor provided a second opinion, she said, and it was the one who discovered Becky’s true condition.

Liz added that whatever therapy Becky undergoes will be life-extending and not curative.

The TV veteran who also appears on the Seven network as presenter of Coast to Coast and Weekender said her mother is currently undergoing chemotherapy.

Liz said she wanted to open up about her mother’s condition because Becky wanted to encourage people to “push for more answers” when dealing with serious issues.

Still, Liz said she was hesitant to make her family ordeal public.

“I’ve also hesitated because there are so many judgments these days, and I know this might not be the worst story for someone else,” she added.

‘But for me it has been a living nightmare, this is not just another cancer diagnosis, this is my mother and my heart is breaking. Mothers are important.’

Liz also shared that her scare was eventually diagnosed as PASH (pseudo-angiomatous stromal hyperplasia), which looks like a tumor.

It may look like a tumor and may be caused by trauma.

She later took to Instagram to share the GCB article and add a message to the post.

‘Mom may look a little different in my stories over the holidays and I hope this answers any questions. Those who have been following me here for a while know that she is a big part of our lives – and a constant with the grandchildren x.’

Liz shares three children with her husband Ryan Lynsaught, sons, Kit, 7, Fin, 6, and two-year-old daughter Sky.

It comes after Liz struck a unique deal with the Seven and 10 networks earlier this year.

After moving to Channel Ten’s 10 News First in August, management at both channels agreed she could continue her gigs presenting lifestyle shows Coast to Coast and Weekender on Seven.

‘Ten immediately agreed. But when I asked Seven if there was any way I could do 10 News as well [Seven’s] Creek to Coast and Weekender, I was told it wasn’t ready yet,” Liz told the Gold Coast Bulletin in September.

‘When I asked why, no one really had a reason. So I kept pushing and they said, “Well, let’s see what we can come up with.”‘

Liz added that after much back and forth, they finally came to an arrangement that everyone was happy with, where she could continue presenting her lifestyle programs after defecting to 10 News.

She added that the deal was mutually beneficial to both Seven and Ten and she hoped similar arrangements could be made for other presenters in the future, which would benefit all major networks.

‘I thank both networks for their foresight and their openness. We are now at the stage where it no longer has to be Seven versus Nine versus Ten, but all free-to-air channels have to work together to retain viewers.

‘I am proud to be one of the first to work in the two networks. I hope I won’t be the last.’

Last month, resigned Seven star Liz Cantor confirmed a huge ‘plot twist’ in her big move from the channel to rival Network 10.

The vibrant presenter confirmed that she is leaving the controversial channel 7News after 17 years and moving to Network 10.

Liz hosts the 10 News First Queensland bulletin live from Brisbane – The stunner runs the program alongside another former Seven reporter, Sharyn Ghidella, who was axed from the network last month due to job cuts.
