Mark Robins’ side have already booked one appearance at Wembley, where they will meet Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final next month, and remain in contention for the play-offs with Coventry four points behind sixth-placed Norwich with a match in hand.

Coventry’s remarkable FA Cup run and good league form have created potential logistical problems for the EFL with both finals taking place on the same weekend on May 25 and 26 respectively.

To complicate matters further, Wembley will also host the Champions League final on June 1, so the EFL has booked the national stadium for the following day as a backup date for the Championship play-off final.

The EFL will only postpone the Championship play-off final for a week if Coventry are definitively involved, as they have already reached the FA Cup final, so the decision will be made late and potentially cause disruption for their opponents.
