Championship club SACK manager after their worst start to a league season for 94 YEARS with just one point from their opening six games

A Championship club have sacked their manager after a disastrous start to the season, leaving the club bottom of the table.

Cardiff suffered their fifth defeat in six league games against Leeds on Saturday and remain bottom of the Sky Bet Championship with just one point and one goal this season.

Owner Vincent Tan is not known for his patience with 11 permanent managers in his 14 years at Cardiff. And another manager has fallen, the club announced, Erol Bulut has been sacked.

A statement said: ‘Cardiff City Football Club can confirm that First Team Manager Erol Bulut has been relieved of his duties and will leave the Club with immediate effect.

‘The Board of Directors would like to thank Erol for all his hard work and wish him all the best for the future.

‘First team coach Nikolaos Karydas is also leaving and leaves with the best wishes of the club. Further confirmation of the backroom staff will follow in due course.

‘Omer Riza will take charge of the first team on an interim basis while the club searches for a new permanent first team manager.’

Bulut acknowledged after Saturday’s defeat that Tan has a good track record with managers but insisted he can turn the tide for Cardiff.

“I don’t think it will be anything new for him,” Bulut said of Tan’s track record, before adding: “Why should I worry about that? Because he is the owner.

‘Of course he wants to achieve results and for the club to be better off.

“I’m sure we’ll have a meeting. (If) it comes like this (being fired), I have to accept it. If the club takes this decision, they have to take this decision. I have to take it as it comes.

‘What can I change if the board says we are not together anymore? But I am preparing for training on Monday and I am preparing the team for the next match.

‘We can’t say everything is wrong. The results are important and some things need to change.

“We can change it. If we look at the first six games, this team, the way we played, deserves the position we have.”
