Mbappe ‘infuriates Barcelona’ after victory

Kylian Mbappe was in the thick of the action on the pitch, scoring twice as Paris Saint-Germain knocked Barcelona out of the Champions League on Tuesday.

But he was also reportedly the spark of a ’60 man brawl’ in the tunnel after the match.

Mbappe, who is likely to join Barcelona’s bitter rivals Real Madrid this summer, is said to have infuriated the Catalan club with his comments after the match.

Manchester United’s cheeky tweet

If there was a fanbase that perhaps most feared City delivering a Double Treble, it was Manchester United’s.

City repeating United’s historic 98-99 performance last season was bad enough, but to do it again would have been painful for the Red Devils.

United wasted no time in publishing a tweet after City lost the penalty shootout last night, leaving fans in stitches at the right time.

Micah Richards’ predictions are disastrous

Some may think football can be predictable, but Micah Richards found out the hard way that predicting the Champions League can be a fool’s errand.

He looked confident as he predicted the competition from the quarter-finals to the final – perhaps unsurprisingly, backing his former side Man City to lift the trophy.

However, he is being mocked on social media after predicting the wrong outcome in all four quarter-finals.

Arsenal players went on a brutal viewing rampage

Not just one, but FOUR Arsenal players – as well as manager Mikel Arteta – were given the second-lowest possible rating that German publication BILD can hand out following their Champions League exit.

While there were two Bayern Munich players who received the highest rating they offer, including the man who knocked them out, Joshua Kimmich.

Gabriel Jesus looks at Ederson

Arsenal’s elimination had already been officially confirmed when the Manchester City match went to penalties.

Gabriel Jesus was spotted by TNT Sports watching as Ederson took a penalty for Man City.

Ederson took his penalty with the condemnation of a striker of 30 goals a year, but that was not enough for City.

Former Liverpool player labels Man City ‘CHEATS’

They may have been eliminated from Europe, but Man City have achieved incredible success in recent years.

However, that success was overshadowed after they were accused of 115 alleged violations of Financial Fair Play rules over a period from 2009 to 2018.

City deny the allegations but Stan Collymore has denounced them following their Champions League exit.

Collymore never won the league during his career, but he played for three teams that did win the league, in the form of Nottingham Forest, Liverpool and Aston Villa.

Secrets of Real Madrid’s success

Goalkeeper Andriy Lunin saved penalties from Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic before Antonio Rudiger stepped up to send the Spanish side through.

Penalties can be seen as a bit of a lottery, but the Real Madrid goalkeeper spoke after the match about how Real Madrid identified three City players who were likely to place their penalties in the middle.

Meanwhile, some Real Madrid players decided not to take a penalty, with one player opting not to take action for tactical reasons.

Coefficient rankings blow

The race for Champions League qualification will have reached a whole new level of intensity following last night’s results.

Aston Villa and Tottenham relied on their English rivals to produce the goods and help the Premier League secure a fifth spot in Europe’s most prestigious competition.

But with Manchester City and Arsenal gone from Europe and Liverpool and West Ham needing a big comeback tonight to reach the semi-finals of the Europa League, it looks like Italy and Germany will be the lucky recipients of fifth place in the Champions League.

Tottenham fans are happy that Kane and Dier are helping to eliminate Arsenal

Harry Kane has been Arsenal’s scourge so often during his time in the Premier League, and his goal in the first leg at the Emirates is one of the reasons why Bayern Munich are in the semi-finals.

Just like the excellent defensive performance of Eric Dier, who was Man of the Match on Wednesday evening.

Tottenham fans will have relished the fact that two of their former stars ended the European dreams of their bitter rivals.

Although last night’s results weren’t all good news for Tottenham…

The moment that ended City’s Double Treble dreams

Saka’s mistake summed up Arsenal

Arsenal legend Martin Keown insisted the Gunners ‘didn’t give Bayern Munich a glove’ during Wednesday night’s second leg at the Allianz Arena.

Since the turn of the year, the Gunners have been full of attacking flair and scoring goals for fun.

But after a promising first half, the Gunners were disappointing in the second half, and Keown believes one moment in extra-time summed up a poor evening for Mikel Arteta’s men.

And what about Arsenal?

Arsenal fans were confident of drawing level with Bayern Munich, with the Gunners a much better side than the side who lost 10-2 on aggregate to the Germans the last time they played in the Champions League.

While Bayern Munich may be the weakest in many years.

However, their European experience paid off as they taught the young talented Gunners a lesson about both feet.

Did Man City fans cost their own team?

How things looked so promising for Pep Guardiola’s side as Luka Modric’s missed penalty gave Manchester City an early lead.

That didn’t last long, however, as Modric kicked the ball into the crowd in frustration and Bernardo Silva had to wait for his penalty to be taken, while City fans took their time returning the penalty to the pitch.

What followed was a terrible penalty from the Portuguese midfielder, who kicked the ball straight into the hands of Andriy Lunin.

You have to wonder what effect that delay had on Silva before his costly miss.

City’s defeat means bad news for Arsenal and Liverpool

Until last night, Manchester City were on course to achieve something no Premier League team has ever done: a Double Treble.

But their penalty shootout loss to Real Madrid showed why this is something that has not been achieved to this day, as despite their overwhelming superiority in terms of chances they were unable to put the Spanish giants aside.

Oliver Holt writes on Mail+ how bad news for Manchester City in Europe could mean worse news for Arsenal and Liverpool when it comes to the Premier League title race.
