Champagne influencer blows minds by revealing the bubbly that’s ‘better’ than Veuve Clicquot and Moet – without the steep price tag
Wine experts have weighed in on bubbles that are comparable or even better than Veuve Clicquot and Moet champagne, and one of them is the ‘Veuve Dupe.’
For those looking for solid quality at a low price, Lucia, a wine educator and sommelier, named three sparkling wines in a TikTok list video which she said were less than $15 at Trader Joe’s at the time.
The three wines Lucia praised were: Trader Joe’s Sonoma County Sparkling Wine, Scholss Biebrech Troken (dry), and Gloria Ferrer Sonoma Brut.
Some bubbly drinkers, however, may be looking for something a little more specific—a bottle that can serve as a dupe for pricier brands. Enter, Cremant—a sparkling wine made using the same traditional method as Champagne.
Not only is it often replaced, its price tag is also not nearly as high as that of a bottle of Veuve or Moet.
Lucia, a wine educator and sommelier, named three sparkling wines in a TikTok video that she said cost under $15 at Trader Joe’s in 2022
‘Realistically, most people can’t afford Veuve or Moet on a regular basis,’ Samantha Capaldi, co-founder of Faff Wine Co, told DailyMail.com.
‘I believe that everyone has the right to good sparkling wine, every day of the week, and not just on special occasions.’
The expert also advised Veuve and Moet lovers to try a bottle of wine she called a “fake wine.”
“One bubbly that I often refer to as the “Veuve Dupe” is Roederer Estate Brut (half price, $28.99) which is available at major wine retailers such as Total Wine & More and some general grocery stores such as Frys,” Capaldi wrote.
Enthusiasts who want to drink a wine that closely resembles Champagne can try Cremant: a sparkling wine made in the same traditional way as Champagne.
‘Another option I like to recommend is a Cremant, which is still made in France, but is generally less expensive than champagne, but still of excellent quality,’ she wrote.
The sommelier also spoke highly of the Louis Bouillot Perle De Vigne Cremant de Bourgogne, which she said retailed for $22.99 at “most major wine stores.”
Like Capaldi, sommelier and content creator Kim Kachmar praised the champagnes Veuve and Moet, but also recommended Cremant de Bourgogne.
Kachmar added that with any type of wine, “it depends on what you like best.”
“If you like the taste of Veuve and Moet, that’s great. If you prefer Cremant, that’s fine too. Buy what suits your budget and taste best and you can’t go wrong,” she shared with DailyMail.com.
Veuve Clicquot was founded in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot after he decided to set up a wine company with vineyards he already owned
Moet & Chandon was founded in 1743 by Claude Moet. It was a widely used champagne by members of the royal courts of Europe
Marshall Tilden, a certified wine specialist, told TikTok users to try Cremant de Bourgogne if they’re looking for a replacement in 2023. video.
Tilden poured a glass of Henri Champliau and explained that bubbles are different from champagne, but definitely worth trying.
“Veuve is usually a Chardonnay-based Champagne — probably half Chardonnay and half Pinot,” Tilden says.
‘The apple and green fruit are perhaps a little fresher and a little more present than in the Veuve.’
The wine specialist also claimed that the bottle of Cremant he had cost “literally a fraction” of the average price of a bottle of Veuve champagne.
Samantha Capaldi called Roederer Estate Brut a ‘Veuve Dupe’. She and fellow sommelier Kim Kachmar recommended wine lovers try Cremant wines instead
Social media users have expressed similar opinions on whether a Cremant wine can be a substitute for expensive Champagne.
Other TikTok users who watched the videos expressed similar opinions about Cremant, saying they preferred sparkling wine.
“When I drink a non-vintage wine, I almost always find a really nice crémant to be better than an average champagne,” one TikToker wrote.
Another commenter wrote: ‘I love Cremant. Whole Foods has a good one, but I forgot about it. It’s about $20.’
