A series of opinion polls ahead of today show Labour heading for a landslide victory.

But the prime minister, who called a general election six weeks ago, has warned voters not to give Sir Keir Starmer unchecked power.

The Conservative Party leader continued his campaign against a Labour “socialist supermajority” with a series of social media posts until just before polls opened.

He has repeatedly warned that Sir Keir will raise taxes if he comes to power and claimed Labour will plunder workers, savers, homeowners, pensioners and drivers.

At his final campaign rally last night, the Prime Minister admitted he was the ‘underdog’ but promised: ‘This underdog will fight until the final whistle.’

Mr Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty were spotted voting early this morning at Kirby Sigston Village Hall in his constituency of Richmond and Northallerton in Yorkshire.

Like all other voters, they must ensure they carry a valid photo ID, such as a passport or driver’s license, in order to vote.

This year marks the first time in the UK that anyone wishing to vote in person at a general election will have to show proof of identity before receiving a ballot paper.

Sir Keir went to vote later this morning when he and his wife Victoria headed to a polling station in their Holborn and St Pancras constituency in north London.

They arrived hand in hand at Willingham Close TRA Hall in Kentish Town.

A latest Ipsos poll, published today, showed Labour down five points from last week to 37 per cent of the vote.

But Sir Keir’s party still retained a comfortable 18-point lead over the Tories, who were unchanged on 19 percent.

The poll of more than 2,000 adults, conducted from Monday to last night, found Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party unchanged at 15 percent, the Liberal Democrats at 11 percent and the Greens at 9 percent.

The poll found that the Conservatives still have their lowest vote share in Ipsos records since the late 1970s, but that Labour also has its lowest vote share since 2021.
