Katie said the first step was to avoid over-hydrating. Instead, use ‘the tiniest bit of lip balm, massaging it onto your fingers or a brush’

After priming her lips, she uses the Simi Haze pencil, freshly sharpened in the shade Omen, to define first the bottom lip and then the center, before applying the lipstick upside down.

Beauty breakdown! Katie’s six steps ensure that your lipstick is guaranteed to last a long time

  1. Start by using a small amount of lip balm
  2. Define the lower lip first and then the center with lip liner before bringing it to the corners of the mouth and shading for definition
  3. Blend the liner with your finger for a blurring effect
  4. Turn the lipstick ball up for better visibility and more control
  5. Apply three coats of lipstick, blend with a brush and blot with a tissue
  6. Apply a metallic blush in a similar shade for a contrasting texture

Katie said the first step was to avoid over-hydrating. Instead, use “the tiniest bit of lip balm, massaging it onto your fingers or a brush.”

“But do not leave a thick layer of balm on your lips, and I repeat: do not, if you want your lipstick to last,” she advised.

“The solution to this is to sleep with lots of lip balm, and I mean lots.”

After priming her lips, she uses the Simi Haze pencil, freshly sharpened in Omen, to first define the lower lip and then the center, before bringing it to the corners of the mouth and shading for definition.

“You really want to take your time with this and try to keep your head centered and looking straight into the mirror,” Katie continued.

The MUA warned that if you tilt your face while doing this, you could accidentally create different shapes on each side of your mouth.

Katie recommended blending the lip liner in with your finger to create a blurred effect in the lip.

The makeup artist used her pinky to steady her hand.

She then pulled the tips of her Cupid’s bow before lowering her pout back up as she balanced herself and focused on her lip.

After application, Katie did not use the front of the lipstick, but instead turned her Red Rock Mac maximum lipstick over to use the back.

She suggested pointing the bullet up, toward her face, for better visibility and control.

“You really want to take your time with this and try to keep your head centered and look straight into the mirror,” Katie said of the intense process

“This is me prepping my lip so the color lasts all day,” Katie explained. ‘You can prime with anything. Priming with the thing itself is also considered a primer’

The beauty influencer painstakingly applied a second coat while stretching her lips to ensure the product got into her folds, before adding another coat to ensure lasting power.

She suggested taking the lipstick with her to reapply throughout the day, but not taking the lip liner as she would only lose color in the center of the mouth.

To create a “beautiful, kind of romantic, dreamy lip texture,” she blended the edges with a small pencil eyeshadow brush with light pressure and “let the brush do the work.”

“The bigger the brush, the bigger the blur,” said Katie, adding, “This product will move on its own” and describing the trick as “something every makeup artist should know.”

“This is a great way to make it look softer and a little less perfect,” while still looking “put together and neat,” she promised.

Finally, the makeup artist applied a metallic eyeshadow shade from Nars in a similar shade for a contrasting texture and longer wear

The makeup artist then applied a metallic blush from Nars in a similar shade for contrasting texture and longevity.

As a final step, the beauty guru stuck her finger in her mouth to prevent lipstick from getting on her teeth.

Katie’s followers loved the easy-to-follow advice.

‘I’ve never heard of the lip blur technique. That is genius!’ one complimented.

Others shared their own advice on long-lasting lipstick.

‘After blotting, I applied a layer of translucent powder between the layers. It helps a lot too,” someone suggested.

‘My 3 items: MAC brick liner, MAC Russian Red, Stila Beso lip stain. Layered together it lasts through greasy pizza, sweat and even the POOL,” said another woman.
