Celebrity gardener Jamie Durie snaps up $3.6M Byron Bay dairy farm – after his controversial $2.7M dream house build in Avalon was finally approved
Jamie Durie dropped $3.6 million on a Byron Bay hinterland retreat, near the popular tourist resort of Nashua.
The creekside farm, called Akubra, has an expansive 30 hectares of land that can house up to 40 cattle, more than 300 sheep, chickens, llamas and goats.
The TV presenter, 53, will also enjoy a five-hole golf course, a fire pit and a lagoon-style pool, reported Realty.com.au on Wednesday.
The property has three bedrooms attached to the family’s main home, as well as a separate cottage, a large farm barn and six paddocks.
Surrounded by tropical plants, fruit trees, a large vegetable garden and macadamia trees, Jamie will feel in his element as a famous gardener.

Together with partner Ameka Jane, their two-year-old daughter Beau and their newborn son Nash, Jamie will also enjoy a huge wood-burning fireplace with a traditional brick hearth.
It comes after Jamie managed to get his proposed build for a $2.7 million home in Avalon approved after receiving more than 50 objections from angry locals.
The landscape guru received Northern Beaches Council approval for his development application (DA) for the waterfront property in April last year.
The creekside farm, called Akubra, has an extensive 30 hectare property that can house up to 40 cattle, more than 300 sheep, chickens, llamas and goats.
His plans to demolish a 1960s cottage and replace it with a large six-story mansion for his family were first met with opposition from neighbors who objected to the removal of seventeen native trees.
Neighbors then wondered whether the construction of the house would affect the ecosystem of a local colony of micro bats.
The former Backyard Blitz presenter said that in his 25 years in the industry, trying to get his renovation plans over the line was the biggest challenge he faced.
The television host will also enjoy a five-hole golf course, a fire pit and a lagoon-style swimming pool, Realestate.com.au reported on Wednesday.
The house has three bedrooms, a separate cottage, a large farm barn and six meadows.
“I can tell you right now, if you want to put a prosecutor in Avalon, it will be the most harrowing thing you’ve done in your life,” Jamie told The Daily Telegraph at the time.
“I’ve spoken to about 20 to 30 people in the last six months who have decided not to file their charges because of the circus this has created.”
Community members were also unhappy with Durie’s plans, saying the home would not fit in with the character of the area.
“It is gross overdevelopment at this location, given the character of the area and the adjacent properties,” one person told the council.
