Do you think you can make a delicious meal with just $4 worth of ingredients?
Well, offering some inspiration is New York-based celebrity chef Dan Churchill.
The 34-year-old – who has cooked for everyone from Lindsey Vonn to Chris Hemsworth and is currently at the helm The osprey restaurant in Brooklyn – has taken to the streets of Manhattan and offered his culinary skills to strangers.
In a series of videos posted on TikTokwhere Churchill has more than 1.3 million followers, you can see him going into different apartments and cooking with the meager range of ingredients he finds – with some excellent results that shock his hosts.

Then each video starts by approaching people on the street and asking if they mind if he cooks for them at their house.
It is clear that all the people he presents say ‘yes’.
Once he gets the green light, Dan quizzes his subjects about their monthly food budgets before entering their apartments, and sees what ingredients they should play with.
Some New Yorkers say their monthly grocery budget is about $1,500 a month, while others are more frugal, spending about $400 to $500 on food supplies.
In one TikTok, Dan comes in Monicas apartment.
The Manhattanite, who works as a dietitian, says her food budget is $1,500 a month.
After taking a look in her refrigerator, Dan prepares a meal with eggs, a red onion, some white vinegar, celery, sourdough, pesto, lemon and rice vinegar. He estimates that the mix of ingredients comes to $4.16.
Once he’s done, the chef hands Monica a “breakfast stack” and she thinks it’s “so good” as she takes a big bite of the dripping egg sandwich.
In another clip, Dan meets drummer and DJ Gavin on the streets of Williamsburg. Gavin explains that he spends $600 a month on groceries

After Dan welcomes Dan into his apartment, the chef gets to work on the gas stove.
In Gavin’s fridge, Dan finds an array of great ingredients to work with.
The medley of goods – including shrimp, garlic, hot truffle sauce, a ribeye steak and sweet potato fries – is estimated to cost $15.77.
After some thrilling action, Dan Gavin presents a surf and turf dish, which gets a big thumbs up.
Then in one TikTok he goes a step further and invites a famous real estate agent Ryan Serhant featured in his series.
The real estate expert, who currently stars on Bravo’s Million Dollar Listing New York, agrees to participate, but he stops short of revealing his monthly food budget, saying he has “no idea” what it is.

From the wide range of ingredients in Ryan’s fridge, Dan chooses to use basil, feta cheese and chicken to create a ‘next level Greek salad’
Dan is clearly impressed by Ryan’s chic Brooklyn home, and he talks about how it “resonates” when they talk because of the cavernous spaces.
After a quick tour of the spacious kitchen, which features a gigantic refrigerator bigger than both men, Dan gets to work preparing a meal.
From the wide array of ingredients in Ryan’s fridge, Dan chooses basil, feta cheese, lime, garlic, olives, tomatoes, parsley, chicken and a dash of chardonnay, with an estimated spend of $10.29.
After combining the goods, Dan presents Ryan with a “next level Greek salad with chicken breast.”
Ryan seems pleased with the artfully presented dish, but he asks, “How do I even start this?” because of the salad’s tower-like arrangement.
Thanks to his funny cooking antics, Dan has built up a mass of followers on TikTok and Instagram, with many viewers applauding the concept of ‘cooking for strangers’.
One viewer noted that cooking is a great way to make friends, while another praised Dan’s interpersonal skills, writing, “This guy is the most chill person in New York, takes a stranger and makes him his boyfriend.”
