Top chef fires back after critics slam his ‘ridiculously priced’ fish and chips that look just like a ‘pub meal’

A celebrity chef has hit out at critics who claim his “famous” $61 fish and chips “look like they belong in the frozen food section of a supermarket.”

Celebrity chef Tom Kerridge recently posted a photo of the small portion of fish, chips and sauce on Instagram, along with his favorite recipe.

“I know my Fish and Chips are always a hot topic and I don’t think you can beat a good fish and chippy tea,” he said with a wink.

And his followers took the bait, with many describing the pricey fish and chips meal as ‘way too expensive’.

“It looks like something you’d see in the frozen aisle. Poor,” said one man, earning a portion from the chef.

‘Sad post mate….. cheer up mate, say something nice, don’t be a dick…. It doesn’t look good,” the chef said.

But others agreed with the angry commentator.

‘Make your food more visually appealing than charging £37 for something that looks like cheap fast food,’ said another.

“Man, you must think people are fools. Your food is ridiculously expensive and nothing special at all in my opinion,” said another.

Others were outraged by the chef’s fiery response to criticism.

‘Normally I respect you, but that’s also a lame answer. His opinion is valid, like it or not, it looks average, wasteful (de-seed potato?) and overpriced for fish and chips,” one man said.

‘I criticized his cheese board on Twitter and everything I got was blocked. Not even an answer,” one person said.

Some pointed out other expensive additions to the menu.

‘You have to laugh at people when they pay such prices. You’re charging £6 ($11.50) for a buttered bun,” another fumed.

Some pointed out that they had been to Harrods to sample the chef’s fish and curry sauce, which was on offer for a whopping $71.

“At Harrods the meal was just eight chips,” said one.

The piece of Cornish fish was covered in gluten-free batter, had a side of Matson curry sauce, tartar sauce and pease pudding.

Some people stood up for the chef.

“It’s called a trimmed fillet, and you know it’s going to be better than a piece of frozen garbage,” said one fan.

‘If people don’t like it, don’t eat it. Considering the location etc it’s completely acceptable,” said another.

A third added: ‘I’m not getting any of these negative comments, this is a great recipe shared by a fantastic chef and you can choose to make it or just keep scrolling. I bet half the people moaning here can’t even be bothered to cook.’

A glimpse of the blackboard menu at the Kerridge restaurant in Harrods suggests hash browns cost $23, fish finger sandwiches for $35 and mushroom soup for $21.
