Celebrity chef Tom Kerridge charges £60 for ‘comforting’ prepared fish pie

Tom Kerridge is charging £60 for a ready-made fish pie, to be ‘finished at home’, after complaining about rising food prices during the cost of living crisis.

The 49-year-old celebrity chef sells a variety of restaurant meal kits in partnership with Dishpatch, which delivers prepared meals to customers’ doors.

The cake, which is described as “indulgent and utterly comforting”, is just one dish on Tom’s online menu of “British favourites”.

Prices range from £32 for Marsala Meatballs for two, to £99 for slow-cooked Côte de Boeuf for two.

Tom’s Saffron & Samphire Fish Pie serves four and starts at £15 a head, another option is available for two for a total of £38 or £19 per person.

The website says, “Indulgent and utterly comforting, Tom’s Fish Pie is packed with smoked haddock, salmon and seasonal whitefish, in a silky smooth saffron béchamel.”

Tom sparked outrage among social media users who tried to make fish cakes for much less.

Jess wrote on Twitter: “Tom Kerridge’s Home Ready Fish Pie for 4 – £60 My Broccoli Fish Pie for 4 – £6.98 Just saying.”

Sharing a few photos on her account, she shared the brilliant results of her homemade dish and a breakdown of the ingredients used.

The chef runs eight restaurants, including Hand of Flowers and The Coach, both in luxurious Marlow, Buckinghamshire.

He previously shared concerns about the rising cost of ingredients in the UK, swapping out diner favorites like beef and cod for cheaper options.

The Michelin-starred chef had been making changes to his restaurant’s menus to try to reduce the burden on his customers.

Tom and chef Simon Gillies brought up the war in Ukraine and the post-pandemic recovery over the rising cost of favorite ingredients as the cost of living rises in the UK.

In addition to the war in Ukraine, Kerridge said a hiring problem is plaguing the hotel industry that hasn’t recovered from lockdowns during the pandemic.

Kerridge said many older staff took early retirement when the lockdown hit, also suggesting that Brexit had affected the influx of European workers.

It’s not the first time Tom has sold expensive meal kits after he came under fire for charging £195 for a Christmas dinner for a family of four who have to cook for themselves.

Some said it was a “scam”, even though it looked “delicious”.

It comes after the chef came under fire over the price of his £87 steak at his Buckinghamshire restaurant, with the chef responding by asking when profit became a dirty word.

The Beef Wellington Christmas Box is £48.75 a head.

The previous Christmas, Kerridge was criticized for charging up to £140 for a tiny turkey for up to eight people.

And at the end of last year his restaurant The Hand and Flowers in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. he too was criticized for charging £87 for a sirloin steak.

The lamb was also £69 and the loin of venison £60, despite being marketed as ‘casual’ and ‘accessible’.
