Famous Big Brother star David Potts has a secret twin brother with a very different life in professional football, who says people struggle to believe they are related.

Engaged father-of-one Matthew Potts, 30, told MailOnline that he even has to ‘provide proof’ that David is his brother because of how different they are.

While David was scouted by ITV bosses to star in Ibiza Weekender, Matthew became a physiotherapist at Championship side Huddersfield Town.

Despite wearing identical outfits until he was 10, Matthew says he never used a fake tan and unfortunately didn’t inherit the same long legs as David, who showed off his pins in hot pants at the show’s launch on Monday night.

Matthew has expressed his pride in David changing Louis Walsh’s perception of his brother, saying that people are often quick to judge but ultimately always love his genuine personality.

He said: “We went down two completely different paths.

‘It’s a thing for people when they find out who he is… I’m not going to shout about it, but when people find out they’re quite shocked and I always have to prove that we’re related because they don’t’ Believe not me, which is kind of funny.

‘We’ve put on the same outfits and as twins you’re in the same bubble, but the reality is – and as we’ve proven – we’re completely different people.

‘He’s loud when you first see him and the celebrities in the house were quite surprised by him at first, but now that they get to know him, your perception of him completely changes within five minutes. It’s a credit to him, he’s great in that sense.”

Matthew says he and David’s family, including his older brother, mother and father, are all incredibly proud of the way he has built a career in the entertainment industry, starring in reality shows such as Celebs Go Dating and Celebrity Ghost Trip.

Their joy comes after David endured a difficult childhood in which he was bullied at school before coming out as gay.

It wasn’t until David spoke openly about his sexuality that he was able to fully embrace his true self. An uphill battle that Matthew admits has taught him a lot about the LGBTQ community.

He said: ‘David had a hard time with bullying. He went through a rough patch growing up, but then he became who he is today and his confidence grew.

“It was hard for me too, because I grew up with him the way he was, and I never thought anything about it and all of a sudden, in high school, where all the kids were saying bad things about him… think, what is what’s going on with him? And there was nothing wrong… today we are in a society that is much more open and accepting.

“That’s why we’re proud, because he overcame that part of life and it made him the person he is today, he doesn’t care anymore and he has so much confidence.

“From my perspective, it’s been a huge learning curve, and it’s given me a new appreciation for what he’s been through and as a community, what people go through growing up, the struggles they have, and it’s given me a better understanding of that. in the best possible way.’

Matthew says it’s not just their lives that have taken a different direction, but also their sense of style.

After a decade of being dressed in identical outfits, Matthew recalls that David started experimenting with fake tan, which, along with his dazzling white teeth and baring his hairless legs, is how fans will recognize him today.

Matthew said: ‘He looks incredible! He has the best pair of legs I’ve ever seen on a man. I didn’t get them myself… I have a decent hairline and that’s about it.

‘Tanning is not for me, I don’t mind using a sunbed every now and then.

“It all started around the time he came out more publicly with my family. It was a weight lifted off his shoulders and he could finally be himself, which was a humbling moment.”

David’s brother says it was a dream come true for the ITV2 star to be cast in Celebrity Big Brother after growing up watching the show.

He predicts he was ‘stunned’ by fellow housemates Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh as the X Factor was also a regular part of their household on Saturday nights.

The family liked that David changed the opinion of former judge Louis, who initially agreed with Sharon that he should be eliminated “in danger” after they analyzed the housemates from a secret room on the first night.

He said: ‘X Factor was big in our house growing up so meeting Sharon and Louis must have blown his mind.

“Obviously Louis’ perception of him wasn’t the best initially, but he’s been himself and got on with him straight away.

“He would love to win it and it would mean the world to him. He has every chance to do it because people will realize how real and honest he is. I think he fits in well with the people.’
