Cecilia Braekhus pulls out of her title fight with Terri Harper in Dublin tonight… with the Super-Welterweight match-up as part of the undercard for Katie Taylor’s first professional fight in Ireland

Cecilia Braekhus has pulled out of her WBA Super-welterweight bout with Terri Harper tonight in Dublin, telling her social media followers that she woke up with flu-like symptoms.

The news of the Norwegian’s withdrawal was confirmed by IFL TV on Twitter.

The fight at the 3Arena would be the last of the undercard before Katie Taylor’s first professional fight in Ireland against Chantelle Cameron.

In an Instagram post, Braekhus said she called “headache, fever, ear, nose, throat, the whole thing.”

She said she felt “amazing” at Friday’s weigh-in, but was “heartbroken” by the sudden illness that struck her overnight.

She said she was “devastated” by her fans and by Harper, and expressed hope that they could arrange to meet again “very soon.”

Braekhus, 41, has a 37-2 record in the sport, having won nine of those fights by knockout.

Her most recent victory over Marisa Joana Portillo in December last year returned the Norwegian fighter to winning ways, after back-to-back losses to American Jessica McCaskill in 2020 and 2021.

Harper would defend her WBA super-welterweight title in Saturday’s fight, which she won by unanimous decision after fighting Britain’s Hannah Rankin in Nottingham in September 2022.

The meeting between Braekhus and Harper was to be the penultimate fight of the night at Dublin’s 3Arena before Taylor’s fight against Cameron.

Taylor, 36, had planned to fight Puerto Rican Amanda Serrano, but due to injury she will instead face 32-year-old Cameron, who has been calling for a fight against the Irish woman for several years.
