CCleaner’s VPN gets faster and more secure

CCleaner’s VPN service was already one of the best PC optimizers out there, but it’s now more secure and up to 35% faster.

Kamo, the provider’s anti-tracking and online privacy tool, just added WireGuard as the default protocol for Private Connection mode.

Powered by VPN technology, the feature creates a secure and encrypted tunnel between users’ Windows PCs and the Internet.

A safe and enhanced browsing experience

“The addition of WireGuard to the Private Connection feature will improve people’s online privacy and reduce tracking and access restrictions while improving speed and browsing experience,” said Sandro Villinger, Head of Product Strategy for CCleaner.

A VPN protocol is a set of instructions that defines both how the data is encrypted and how this information is moved between servers and devices. This means that it can have a major impact on connection speed and security.

WireGuard, a relatively new entry into the world of security software, is known for its much simpler codebase. A leaner protocol translates into faster speeds and better control over the vulnerabilities. For example, it shortens loading times, while reducing the attack surface for cybercriminals.

“This will help people take more ownership and control of their digital lives so they can enjoy a freer, fairer internet,” said Villinger.

The latest tests showed that connections performed 35% faster when WireGuard was used instead.

Part of the CCleaner privacy suite, Kamo was launched in 2020 to provide users with greater privacy by tackling increasingly complex web trackers.

The VPN mode, called Private Connection, hides people’s real location as well as the computer’s IP address. This provides a way to browse the Internet securely while preventing nosy ISPs and/or malicious actors from spying on users’ online activities.

“After cleaning and speeding up devices, we wanted to equip people with additional privacy-focused features that would allow them to navigate their online world without worrying about what data is shared with companies or individuals, and in turn, what they do with it. could do,” explains Villinger.

With a network of 58 servers in 36 locations, Kamo’s Private Connection is currently only available for Windows-only PCs (7,8,10, and 11, except Windows in S mode and Windows with an ARM processor).
