CBS host Nate Burleson rips NFL fans for Taylor Swift fury over new season promo: ‘Get out your mama’s basement’

CBS anchor Nate Burleson had some harsh words for critics of Taylor Swift’s NFL promotional video on Wednesday, urging opponents to “get out of your mother’s basement.”

Some NFL fans were upset the day before when the league released a promotional video featuring Swift, the girlfriend of Chiefs star Travis Kelce, no fewer than five times.

But Burleson, a former receiver for the Lions, thinks viewers should get over it.

“Get out of your feelings, ‘oh are you mad, are you a little mad because Taylor Swift is in the promo? ‘ Who cares,” he said on CBS Mornings, according to Terrible announcement.

“Wipe the drool off your tank top, put on some pants, and get out of your mother’s basement! I don’t get what the big deal is! Every other sport can show celebrities at their games, we show Taylor Swift, and you get your feelings. Man, get your feelings out and watch the games.”

Swift dominated a new promo for the 2024 NFL season ahead of this week’s season openers

The promotional video in question featured Patrick Mahomes, widely regarded as the league’s best player, only once. However, notable names such as Joe Burrow and Brock Purdy were completely absent.

Other notable players not featured in the promo, which runs the six calendar months of the season, include quarterbacks CJ Stroud (Texans), Matthew Stafford (Rams) and Jordan Love (Packers).

Swift was first seen partying with Kelce’s mom Donna at Arrowhead in two separate clips in September, before arriving at a game in January wearing a custom ‘Kelce 87’ Chiefs jacket.

Also in January, Taylor is seen sharing a kiss with Travis on the field after Kansas City’s AFC Championship win in Baltimore. In February, a clip shows her drinking a beer on the big screen during last season’s Super Bowl.

And NFL fans were outraged by Swift’s repeated presence in the video.

Swift’s romance with Travis Kelce sent her fan base flocking to NFL radio stations

Someone wrote in surprise on X: ‘Taylor Swift was seen 5 times in this 28-second clip showing the return of football.’

Another was furious: ‘STOP SHOWING TAYLOR SWIFT, WE DON’T CARE’.

A third posted: ‘I’ve seen Taylor Swift 5 times and I haven’t even seen my own team’.

A fourth commented: ‘lol I’m fine with Taylor Swift being in it once but being the one getting the most screen time for an NFL hype video is absurd.’

Kelce’s Chiefs open the season on Thursday against the Ravens and Swift will undoubtedly be featured on the broadcast if she’s in attendance.
