The CBI on Monday arrested an EPFO enforcement officer while he allegedly received a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from a software company that had received over Rs 3 crore under the central government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat Rozgar Yojana, officials said.
Arrested officer P. Kabilan of Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO), Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu, is said to have come to know that the company has received Rs 3 crore from the Center under the scheme to boost job creation in the formal sector through the support of EPF contributions for new employees, they said.
Kabilan allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 15 lakh, five percent of the total money, from the software company owner for not taking action against it.
“It is further alleged that the accused officer collected and verified the documents of the complainant company and came to know that the company has received an amount of Rs 3 crore (approximately) under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Rozgar Yojana (ABRY) scheme of the central government. For that amount, he allegedly demanded five percent as bribe from the complainant,” a CBI spokesperson said.
After verifying the allegations, the CBI teams reached the spot where the officer was caught red-handed while receiving a partial payment of Rs 2 lakh of the total bribe, he said.
