Caught red-handed! James Norton runs traffic lights on his bike

Caught in the act! James Norton makes traffic lights run on his bike… emulating his fugitive character Tommy Lee Royce in Happy Valley

  • The 37-year-old actor was spotted jumping through a red light in central London on his bike

He cycled into hiding after escaping court as psychopath Tommy Lee Royce in Happy Valley.

And in real life, James Norton’s latest bike ride could land him in trouble.

The actor, 37, was seen whizzing through central London by jumping a red light near a police station.

Norton, wearing a helmet, was approaching a cyclist on a rental bike as he crossed the white line in the yellow box where a car passed right of way ahead of him.

The Highway Code states that cyclists, just like motorists, may not cross the last white stop line when the traffic light is red.

If caught, cyclists can face a fixed fine of £30.

Fines of £1,000 can be imposed for careless cycling, rising to £2,500 for dangerous cycling.

Last year, then-Secretary of Transportation Grant Shapps unveiled plans for a new law to prosecute dangerous cyclists.

Norton previously cycled around London for the Stroke Association in memory of his grandmother.

He is currently on stage playing a disabled lawyer in A Little Life, an adaptation of Hanya Yanagihara’s novel.

It comes just months after Norton’s villainous alter ego Royce committed suicide after a final encounter with Sarah Lancashire’s Sergeant Cawood at the BBC’s Happy Valley.
