A Catholic prep school in Massachusetts closed today after reports of an active shooter.

St John’s Preparatory School issued the alert via its website Monday afternoon, saying Danvers Police and Massachusetts State Police were both on the scene.

Massachusetts police are at the school and said there is no imminent threat, but troopers are still conducting a second inspection.

Massachusetts State Police said in a tweet, “At 1:49 PM several dozen Troopers and @DanversPolice responded to St. John’s Prep for reports of a person with a gun at the school. Immediate entry made and no threats identified at this time.

“Teams do secondary sweeps. We are currently aware of no injuries. More to follow.’

The school is a private, Catholic prep school for boys in grades 6–12 in north Boston.

“There has been a report of an active shooter on campus in Benjamin Hall. Danvers and state police are on scene. Teachers and staff are hiding in their places.

“We will provide updates as soon as possible,” the warning on the school’s website read.
