Joel looks stone-faced as he stares at her in silence, but she carries on and her words narrate the rest of the trailer as glimpses of what’s to come flash on the screen.

Viewers are shown a shot of Ellie walking into a fortified city, along with a nice glimpse of her playing guitar with Joel.

“You can’t cure something unless you’re brave enough to say it out loud,” Catherine says as a flash of a blood-stained street sign appears.

Ellie then plays guitar while her new love interest Dina (Isabela Merced) sits down and watches.

“Say what you’re afraid to say,” Catherine adds.

“Say it out loud, whatever it is, no matter how bad,” she continues.

“What have you done?” she asks.

Throughout Catherine’s words, viewers see flashes of all the drama unfolding in season two, including a massive attack by the infected.

According to a synopsis for season two The Hollywood Reporter: ‘After five years of peace following the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie’s collective past catches up with them, bringing them into conflict with each other and with a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.’

The Last of Us is based on the video game of the same name created by Neil Druckmann and which debuted on PlayStation 3 in 2013.

Set in a post-apocalyptic world twenty years after the end of modern civilization, the series follows survivor Joel, played by Pascal, who is hired to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie out of the quarantine zone.

A virus has infected humanity and caused a zombie outbreak.

What should have been a small job becomes a brutal journey as they depend on each other for survival as they travel across the US

The season two trailer was released on September 26, dubbed ‘The Last Of Us Day’. That date is important in the video game: it is the day the virus outbreak started.

O’Hara’s casting was confirmed in February, with HBO revealing the star would play an as-yet “undisclosed role” in the series.

The official word came after the Best in Show actress appeared on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live and a fan asked her if the rumors that she would be joining the show were true.

“How do you know these things?” O’Hara said, before confirming: “It’s under discussion – yes.”

O’Hara joked and said, “Wait, what?” Will you participate in the show? And you’re about to quit and you just want to give it all away?’

She also revealed a family connection to the show. “My son is a regular dresser on the show,” she told Cohen.

O’Hara is best known for her roles in Christopher Guest’s films, the Home Alone franchise, Beetlejuice and as Moira Rose in Schitt’s Creek.

Season two of The Last Us will premiere next year on Max.
