Cancer-stricken singer Cat Janice -who went viral after releasing song to support her seven-year-old son – has died at age 31

The relatives of musician Cat Janice, best known for her song Dance You Outta My Head, announced on Wednesday morning that she died of cancer.

In a statement shared on Instagram, the 31-year-old artist’s loved ones revealed that she passed away at her childhood home “surrounded by her loving family.”

“Catherine peacefully entered the light and love of her heavenly creator,” the post began. “We are eternally grateful for the outpouring of love Catherine and our family have received over the past few months.”

They continued, “Cat has seen her music go places she never expected and is resting in the peace of knowing that she will continue to care for her son through her music. Without all of you, this wouldn’t have been possible.’

Janice blew up on social media, especially TikTok, after revealing that she transferred all her songs to her seven-year-old son Loren’s name so he would receive all the proceeds.

Janice, 31, of Washington, DC, was diagnosed with sarcoma – cancer of the bones or soft tissue – in early 2022.

She underwent surgery, chemotherapy and radiation – while continuing to record and release new music – and was told she was cancer-free in July 2022.

But in June 2023, the mother of one announced on social media that the disease had returned, this time in her lungs.

Earlier this month, she told her followers that she felt “trapped in an almost lifeless body” while receiving palliative care.

After a long battle with the terrible disease, the singer declared last month that ‘the cancer had won’ and that she only had a few ‘weeks or months’ left.

The artist then decided to release a ‘farewell song’ called Dance You Outta My Head, as a last-ditch effort to raise money for her son.

Cat duetted with content creator Sarah Cothran, who she asked to perform a “haunting cover” of the song.

The artist then gave a poignant update on her condition, writing: ‘It’s been so hard for me to get through this and all these videos and covers and all your support have made it easier and I can’t thank you enough.

‘I’ve always been strong, so the weeks I couldn’t walk made me feel trapped.

“But this helped me remember that when I get to heaven, I’m going to dance with God and soar above the clouds. I can not wait.’

Fighting back tears, she concluded, “I won’t be stuck in this body anymore. I’m going to dance again. I hope to see you all there.’

Cat continued in the caption as she wrote, “I’ve been passing slowly, unable to move, unable to use my legs, trapped in this almost lifeless body.

“Cancer is no joke and never plays nice. But this beautiful moment reminds me that soon I will be flying through the sky, flying through the next dimension, dancing with God and my Nonnie.

‘I’ll finally be free and boy, I’m going to dance. Thanks to all of you, my son will have all these wonderful memories too.”

The mom first took to Instagram on Jan. 5 with a candid post that read, “There’s no easy way to say this (but) my time on this beautiful earth is coming to an end (in) weeks or months, I know unsure .’

Cat, who tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend just days earlier, continued: “I’m so grateful that I got to spend this past week at my own beautiful wedding with the love of my life.

‘You never know what life has to offer you. One minute you’re slowly dancing in the arms of your husband and your amazing son… the next minute you’re in the hospital hearing the news.

“I’m not afraid because I know I have so many loved ones around me and that I will be with my maker.

“But one thing I wanted to do before I go is put out one more song for my birthday and pray that I make it to my birthday.

‘I am leaving the entire proceeds to my son, who is very musically inclined, in the hope of giving him the music boost he will need later in life.

‘I hope it brings you as much joy and dancing feet as it has brought me. I want to leave you with smiles, grooves and joy and I know this is the right song for that.

“I love you all and will try to keep you informed, but sometimes it’s hard. Thank you for loving me and my music all these years.”
