Casual coffee run! Malia Obama steps out in LA week after he sister Sasha’s graduation

Malia Obama kept it casual when she went for coffee with a friend on Friday — a week after her glamorous display at sister Sasha’s graduation.

The former first daughter, 24, was joined by a friend as they enjoyed the warm LA weather.

Malia dressed in a baggy blue top and big jeans with sandals. Her boyfriend was also nonchalant.

She was recently spotted attending Sasha’s graduation from the University of Southern California last Friday. A beaming Barack and Michelle Obama were also on hand to watch Sasha, 21, earn her sociology degree.

Malia moved to LA to pursue a screenwriting career after graduating from Harvard University in 2021.

The Ivy League grad previously worked as an intern on Lena Dunham’s HBO series Girls in 2015 and The Weinstein Company in 2017.

She also served as a production assistant on Halle Berry’s CBS sci-fi drama series Extant before hitting the writers’ room.

Glover, who is also known by his stage name Childish Gambino, confirmed in March 2022 that he had given the former first daughter her first job writing for the series.

Sasha, 21, began her studies at the University of Michigan and later transferred to USC, where she majored in sociology. The sisters share an apartment.

For last week’s ceremony, Sasha was dressed in a black cap and gown with the USC shield and cardinal piping, which she wore over a patterned cream maxi dress.

Her long, highlighted hair was styled in loose waves and she wore a Hawaiian necklace around her neck.

Sasha completed her graduation look with chunky gold rings and her signature long nails were painted a shade of midnight blue.

She was all smiles as she received her diploma and posed for photos with friends after the ceremony.

The youngest daughter of the Obamas had followed in her big sister’s footsteps when she moved to the West Coast to attend USC after the pandemic.

A few months ago, Michelle shared how her role as a parent has changed now that she’s in her 50s and her daughters are building a life for themselves in California.

“I’m going from Supreme Mother to Supreme Advisor,” she told Today co-anchor Hoda Kotb in the first episode of her podcast, The Light, which was taped during her last book tour.

“That’s a beautiful thing – to be able to watch my girls fly and have the relief of ‘Okay, I guess I didn’t mess them up.'”

The mother-of-two added that she is also aiming not to greet her daughters with a “critical eye” now that they are adults.

What Toni Morrison is saying is our kids just want our happiness. They don’t need us to fix them,” she explained. “They don’t need us to point out what’s wrong first.”
