Castle Hill tragedy: Woman plunges to death from popular lookout in Townsville

A woman has died after falling from a popular clifftop viewpoint.

It is believed the woman fell from the top of Castle Hill in Townsville, North Queensland, at 2.54pm on Sunday.

Emergency services were only able to provide limited details about the death, which was later confirmed by Queensland Police as mental health related.

Emergency responders were assisted by the Polair Townsville helicopter and Queensland Government Air in locating the woman’s body.

A woman died after falling from the top of a Castle Hill lookout in Townsville, Queensland, at 2.54pm on Sunday.

A spokesperson for the Fire and Emergency Services confirmed the body was found at 4pm.

The woman was already dead when she was located.

Castle Hill Road has since been closed and the public has been urged to avoid the area.

Castle Hill is an iconic focal point of Townsville with stunning 360 degree views of the city.

More than 2,500 residents and tourists visit the monument and use the hiking trails every day.
