Former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson wrote in her new book that former President Donald Trump admitted to Chief of Staff Mark Meadows that he lost the 2020 election.
She also held Meadows largely responsible for giving Trump false hope as he tried to overturn his 2020 election loss.
Hutchinson wrote that after the Supreme Court declined to hear Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s bogus lawsuit challenging the election results in four swing states that President Joe Biden won, Meadows pressed ahead.
‘Why didn’t we call more? We had to do more… We can’t let this stand,” Hutchinson quoted Trump as saying. “I don’t want people to know we lost, Mark. This is embarrassing. Figure it out.’
Meadows, Hutchinson recalled, assured Trump he would work on it a copy obtained by CNNwhen the White House “turned toward total lawlessness.”

Enough of former Mark Meadows assistant Cassidy Hutchinson was released on Tuesday
Hutchinson said Meadows, her boss, regularly burned documents in the fireplace of the chief of staff’s office.
She recalled former Rep. Devin Nunes asking, “How often does he burn papers?” when Meadows’ office smelled smoky before a meeting.
Meadows’ wife also complained. Hutchinson wrote.
‘Mark doesn’t have to burn anything else. All his suits smell like bonfire,” Debbie Meadows reportedly told Hutchinson.
A spokesperson for Meadows called Hutchinson’s anecdote an “absurd mischaracterization.”
‘Mrs. Meadows referred to how the wood-burning fireplace made the office smell smoky – and we often started him off with old newspapers. It has nothing to do with documents,” the spokesperson told CNN.
Throughout the book, Hutchinson characterizes Meadows as a devoted servant of Trump.
She remembered Meadows once asking her, “Would you take a bullet for him?” after a 2020 campaign rally.
“Could it be in the leg?” Hutchinson said she was joking.
Meadows responded that he would “do anything” to give Trump a second term.
The chief of staff and former congressman from North Carolina also indicated that he knew that Trump did not always go above and beyond.
“Cass, if I can get this job done and manage to keep (Trump) out of jail, I’ve done a good job,” he said in June 2020.
