Casemiro’s wife has come to her husband’s defence after the Manchester United midfielder was heavily criticised for his performance during his team’s 3-0 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.

The Brazilian star was responsible for Liverpool’s first two goals, twice giving the ball away for Luis Diaz to punish on both occasions.

Sky Sports co-commentator Jamie Carragher admitted it was a “sad sight” to see Casemiro struggling as he was taken off at half-time by Erik ten Hag and replaced by youngster Toby Collyer.

It is not the first time that Carragher has criticised Casemiro’s performance, as he also called for United to let the midfielder go at the end of last season following their humiliating 4-0 defeat at Crystal Palace. Casemiro was also ridiculed on social media following his unfortunate display, but his wife has hit back at his critics.

Anna Mariana Casemiro posted a photo on Instagram early Monday morning of her husband’s impressive trophy cabinet in the house where they live together, reminding fans of all he has won in the sport.

The 32-year-old won five Champions League titles, three La Liga titles and the Copa del Rey with Real Madrid before joining United in 2022, all of whom were pictured.

He also won the Copa America with Brazil and two trophies in his first two seasons at United, suggesting his time at Old Trafford has far from been a complete disaster.

But despite the support of his wife of 10 years, Casemiro now looks in grave danger of losing his place in United’s starting line-up.

Collyer had some fine moments during his 45-minute cameo appearance on Sunday and could now push for more playing time, while the Red Devils also completed the signing of Manuel Ugarte from PSG on the final matchday.

The Uruguayan appears to be in pole position to play alongside Kobbie Mainoo after the international break, although he is said to not be fully fit yet as he has not played yet this season.

It could mean Casemiro gets one more chance to prove he is the solution to United’s midfield woes when they return to action against Southampton on September 14, but he can’t afford to put in another performance like Sunday’s.

He is not the only one under pressure at Old Trafford. Ten Hag also feels the pressure after losing for the second week in a row.

United have taken just three points from their opening three games and are now 14th in the table, already six points behind Manchester City and Liverpool.
