Casemiro ‘only needed to know where he would live, train and play to be convinced to join Man United’… with the Brazilian midfielder’s direct approach to his £60m move leaving the Red Devils confident they had signed ‘ a leader’

  • Casemiro joined Manchester United from Real Madrid for £60m in the summer
  • Before joining he just wanted to know where he would live, train and play
  • His direct approach convinced United they had signed ‘a leader’
  • The Brazilian seems to have fitted in perfectly in his first months at United

Casemiro only needed the answers to three questions before deciding to join Manchester United in the summer, according to reports.

The Brazilian midfielder’s £60m move to Old Trafford in August was met with skepticism by some fans, who wondered if the move was purely motivated by money.

The change certainly came as a surprise to some given that it came just three months after Casemiro won his fifth Champions League with Real Madrid. Leaving the European champions to move to a club that would play in the Europa League seemed like an odd choice to some viewers.

However, Casemiro did not need much convincing, and was only interested in knowing where he would live, train and play, according to the Manchester evening news.

The 30-year-old was clearly happy with the responses he received when he signed on the dotted line, and his no-nonsense approach to the deal made United believe they had signed ‘a leader’ in the dressing room.

Casemiro has yet to wear the armband at Old Trafford, with Harry Maguire serving as club captain, while Bruno Fernandes has taken over the duties for much of this season when Maguire has not been chosen.

Cristiano Ronaldo was even handed responsibility for United’s trip to Aston Villa earlier this month, ahead of his explosive interview with Piers Morgan that led to his contract being terminated by mutual consent.

In that interview, Ronaldo complained about the lack of progress at the club since he first left in 2009, explaining that the facilities had not improved, leaving United trailing their rivals.

But Casemiro doesn’t seem to have been bothered by any of this, and has let his football do the talking since joining United.

After initially being introduced to the team off the bench by Erik Ten Hag, Casemiro has become a fixture in the Red Devils’ starting lineup.

He has started United’s last seven games in the top flight since their 6-3 loss to Manchester City, and the team have lost just one of those games.

The holding midfielder has also shown there is more to his game than just disrupting play when he scored a last-minute equalizer against Chelsea in October.

He is also a vital part of Brazil’s setup, scoring a fine goal in their win against Switzerland on Monday that sealed the South American nation’s passage to the round of 16 of the tournament.

Casemiro was rested for Brazil’s upset loss against Cameroon on Friday, but it seems almost certain that he will return when they take on South Korea for a place in the quarterfinals.
