Casemiro has withdrawn from Manchester United’s FA Cup final squad after feeling muscle pain during the warm-up at Wembley.

The Brazilian was named by Erik ten Hag on the team sheet as one of the substitutes, but United’s club website had him absent, causing some confusion.

The club later confirmed that Casemiro had suffered an injury and was unable to play in the match.

Central defender Willy Kambwala, 19, has taken Casemiro’s place on the bench.

With Casemiro set to leave Old Trafford this summer, it marks a disappointing end to the £60m midfielder’s United career.

The 32-year-old has struggled this season after an excellent first season following his move from Real Madrid to United.

Despite playing in 32 games, scoring five goals and providing three assists, Casemiro was criticized for his slow performances.

Towards the end of the season he played as a centre-back in a number of matches, amid a defensive injury crisis for Erik ten Hag.

The United boss paired Sofyan Amrabat, Scott McTominay and Kobbie Mainoo at the base of his midfield ahead of a tough test against City.

The return of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez after recent injuries meant United could field a stronger-looking central defensive duo.
