Casemiro has admitted there is ‘no point’ in even thinking about titles or the Champions League at Manchester United at the moment.

The Brazilian midfielder, who has struggled to capture his best form all season, has revealed he has endured sleepless nights as Erik ten Hag’s side lurched from one poor performance to another.

In the past week, United have dropped seven points after winning Premier League matches against Brentford, Chelsea and Liverpool.

They sit sixth in the table, some 22 points behind leaders Arsenal and 11 points behind Tottenham in fourth and Aston Villa in fifth, as they desperately try to become Europe’s top league.

Casemiro, 32, won five Champions League titles and three LaLiga titles with Real Madrid but is honest about United’s current prospects for silverware.

‘It is difficult. This is the thing that bothers me the most about not fighting for titles,ā€ he said ESPN Brazil.

‘Twenty points behind first place. Sometimes I can’t even sleep when I think about doing something else. It’s reality.

‘There is no point in thinking about winning the title or places in the Champions League, we have to think about today’s matches.

‘We have to think about the daily reality, we had the opportunity to score nine points in the last few games and we scored two. We were angry.

‘We have to think game by game and concentrate on the next game, against Bournemouth.’

The match came after arch-rivals United and Liverpool played out a thrilling 2-2 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Luis Diaz fired Liverpool into the lead during a first half they completely dominated, but Bruno Fernandes scored just inside his own half shortly after the break.

Kobbie Mainoo then put United ahead during an end-to-end second period, only for Mohamed Salah’s late penalty to rescue a point for the title chasers.

Casemiro was pleased with the way United responded to the problems Liverpool caused.

He said: ‘The game (against Liverpool) was very fast and well played. A classic. We played against one of the leaders of the league and who is going through a good moment. We responded well.

‘Both teams had chances. The game was good. We are strong at home, but we played against a great team. We have to think about the next game.’

As well as their quest to finish as high as possible in the Premier League, United are also through to the semi-finals of the FA Cup, where they will face Coventry.

United are back in Premier League action on Saturday when they play away to Bournemouth.
