Carwarp crash, Victoria: Two people dead and multiple others injured in horror crash near Mildura that closed Calder Highway

Two people have been killed and several others are being treated for injuries after a horror crash closed a major highway.

Emergency services were called to the Calder Highway in Carwarp, north-east Victoria, to reports of a minibus crashing into a tree about 7.45am.

Two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene, while another passenger and the driver were taken to hospital in critical conditions.

The remaining seven passengers were also taken to hospital, three for treatment of serious injuries and the other four for observation.

Victoria Police confirmed the Calder Highway is expected to be closed for “several hours” between Kulkyn Way and Brownport Road.

The highway is a major trade route for the state’s north-west as it stretches from the NSW border at Mildura to Bendigo and Melbourne.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is still ongoing.
