A few days ago, Carrie revealed what kind of judge she wants to be on American Idol, 20 years after she first became a star on the show.

The star rose to national fame in 2005 thanks to the reality series, in which she won the fourth season.

Twenty years later, she returns to the show for season 23 in 2025, joining a judging panel including Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

She takes over from Katy Perry, who was on American Idol for seven years before announcing her departure earlier this year.

Now Carrie has shared her theories about how she will fare as a judge, during a chat at Resorts World in Las Vegas with SiriusXM.

She noted that she has worked in a variety of genres and because of that, “I consider myself versatile. When I listen to people audition, hopefully I can use the lens that I need to use to determine what kind of music I want to hear.”

The Before He Cheats singer added: ‘I think I can be honest and constructive but still kind, and I think that’s the whole point.

Carrie noted that “people come in and, you know, they’re dreams, and from that point on you’re part of someone’s story.”

She continued, “I think it’s important to be honest, but I also think it’s really important to be kind. Hopefully I can put them all together and be a good judge.”

Carrie takes over from Katy Perry, who was first announced as an American Idol judge in 2017. She reportedly earns a whopping $25 million per season.

Last year, Katy came under fire online and was accused of ‘bullying’ for her testy comments towards candidates.

DailyMail.com exclusively reported at the time that she was on the verge of quitting the ABC reality show after feeling she had been “let down by the producers” and had taken on the role of a “mean judge” on the series.

Months after the Internet controversies erupted, Katy announced on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in February that she would be leaving the show after season 22.

When Carrie was announced as Katy’s replacement, Lionel enthusiastically said she would be a “great judge,” citing her experience as a contestant on the show.

“Now we don’t have to explain, ‘We know how you feel.’ As artists, we know how you feel, but we’ve never been in that oval space that says, ‘American Idol. She’s been there, done that,'” the crooner explained to E! News.

Carrie became a contestant on American Idol after her stellar audition in August 2004, in which she sang Bonnie Raitt’s song I Can’t Make You Love Me.

The following year, American audiences fell head over heels in love with Carrie, and she rose through the ranks of American Idol and eventually won the season.

At the time, the judges consisted of Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul, while Ryan Seacrest served as host, a role he still holds today.

She went on to become a hugely successful country star, winning a record 25 CMT Music Awards. Along with Kelly Clarkson, she is often cited as one of the few American Idol winners to go on to an A-list career.
