Carrie Underwood accused of ‘snubbing’ Kamala Harris at her performance at Donald Trump’s Inauguration

Carrie Underwood has been accused of “snubbing” now-former Vice President Kamala Harris during Donald Trump’s 2025 inauguration on Monday.

The Crazy Angels singer, 41, took to the stage to sing America The Beautiful at the US Capitol after the event was moved indoors due to frigid temperatures outside.

After her performance — which was marred by technical difficulties — Underwood turned to shake hands with former President Joe Biden, Trump and new Vice President JD Vance before walking out.

Despite Harris standing right next to Biden, and standing right behind the American Idol winner during her performance, Carried did not shake her hand.

The viral moment was shared to X (formerly known as Twitter), with many fans accusing the singer of being “disrespectful.”

“Carrie Underwood snubbed Kamala Harris at the inauguration today when she didn’t shake her hand while shaking others around her. A completely different statement than what she gave about coming together and unity.’

However, others defended the singer, saying she had no intention of shaking Vance’s hand either.

It comes after singer Ariana Grande appeared to subtly shade Carrie after her performance after the singer was hit with technical shock issues.

Both Underwood and President Trump appeared to grimace as the song did not play, leaving an unsettling silence over the crowd and a stunned Underwood clinging to her microphone.

Due to the technical difficulties, the Before He Cheats musician decided to perform a cappella, imploring the audience before singing the song, “If you know the words, help me out here.”

Ahead of her inauguration, Underwood faced backlash for agreeing to perform at the ceremony, and now it appears fellow singer Grande has joined the criticism.

On social media Monday, the Wicked star hit the like button on an Instagram post by internet personality Evan Ross Katz that poked fun at Underwood.

The image she liked was a snapshot of Underwood singing America The Beautiful into the microphone while Vice President Kamala Harris stood behind her with an unimpressed expression.

“Kamala Harris reminds me of Coco Montrese (“Girl, find the note”) while watching Carrie Underwood at today’s chilling inauguration,” Katz captioned the post, referencing a quote from RuPaul’s Drag Race.

The Golden Globe nominee seemingly agreed with Katz’s assessment of Underwood’s performance by double-tapping the Instagram post.

Despite the backlash Underwood received when she agreed to perform at the ceremony, the singer has maintained that she decided to sing at Trump’s inauguration simply out of pride in her country.

“I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event,” she said in an earlier statement.

“I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and look to the future.”

However, sources revealed to DailyMail.com that Underwood felt she had not received “the same level of respect” as the likes of Beyoncé and Lady Gaga for her performance.

An insider said she was furious about not even being given a “stage or platform” like previous performers, explaining how the indoor conditions had a major impact on Underwood’s performance.

“Carrie was unhappy with her performance at the event, mainly due to the limited space she was given, which made her feel cramped and uncomfortable,” they said.

‘Her anxiety was high during the performance and she felt that she was not afforded the same level of respect or admiration that previous artists, such as Beyoncé and Lady Gaga, had received.

“She felt like she was being guided in and out and then had a mini hissy fit,” she added.

An insider source clarified that while Underwood’s performance “wasn’t ideal,” she’s still “proud of herself” that she was “able to keep it from being a total disaster.”
