Referring to the performance on Instagram in January, Carol wrote: “My girl katie.science. grafter. Brilliant. Scientist. Funny. Astonishing. She passed her PHD in nanotechnology @cambridgeuniversity, couldn’t be prouder of more hangover.

She added: “Katie’s research is about how it can then be delivered specifically to the tumor. She uses nanotechnology and in particular gold nanoparticles.
The star continued: ‘Hopefully, at some point, this will help cancer patients avoid undergoing the all-encompassing effects of chemotherapy. She is part of a large research team working at @cambridgeuniversity and at Astra Zeneca.
“So here I am as her mother. So proud. I know all the struggles she has overcome, and the hard effort she has put into becoming this fine young woman.
“I don’t want this feeling to stop. She’s the best in the world…and frankly so am I and so is her little brother Cameron. What a happy mother I am. Single parenthood isn’t all that bad.’
Kate is the eldest of Carol’s two children from her 10-year marriage to her second husband, management consultant Patrick King.
