Carol Baum does dramatic U-turn over THOSE Sydney Sweeney comments: Top Hollywood producer regrets ‘attacking’ star’s acting abilities and branding her ‘not pretty’ after feeling the wrath of actress’ diehard fans

Hollywood producer Carol Baum has admitted she regrets publicly slamming Sydney Sweeney after feeling the wrath of the actress’ diehard fans.

Last week, Baum sparked outrage when she targeted the 26-year-old actress while speaking to New York Times film critic Janet Maslin in front of a live audience.

DailyMail.com then exclusively revealed that she had accused Sweeney of not being able to act as she called her film Everyone But You ‘unwatchable’.

The US star was defended by fans who quickly accused Baum of jealousy and said she was an example of ‘internal misogyny’.

Now Baum has admitted that she wishes she had never made these comments, telling TMZ that ‘Insulting such an actor in public is usually not her style.’

Baum further revealed that she was inundated with hate mail in the aftermath.

At the same time, Sweeney broke her silence on the debacle by criticizing Baum for attacking another woman in the industry.

“How sad that a woman in a position to share her expertise and experience would choose to attack another woman instead,” a rep for Sweeney told DailyMail.com.

“If that’s what she’s learned in her decades in the industry and sees fit to teach it to her students, it’s shameful.

“To unfairly disparage a fellow female producer speaks volumes about Ms. Baum’s character.”

Baum spoke to Maslin before an audience of fans when she made the comments following a screening of her 1988 film Dead Ringers starring Jeremy Irons.

“She’s not pretty, she can’t act,” said Baum, whose films include Father of the Bride and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

“There’s an actress that everyone loves right now: Sydney Sweeney. I don’t understand Sydney Sweeney.’

Addressing her romantic comedy Anything But You, in which she stars with Glen Powell, Baum said: “I was watching the Sydney Sweeney movie on the plane because I wanted to see it.

‘I wanted to know who she is and why everyone is talking about her. I watched this unwatchable movie – sorry to people who like this movie – [this] romantic comedy where they hate each other.’

Referring to the production class she teaches at the USC School of Cinematic Arts, Baum added, “I said to my class, ‘Explain this girl to me.’ She’s not pretty, she can’t act. Why is she so hot?”

“Nobody had an answer, but then the question was asked, ‘If you could get your movie made because she was in it, would you do it?’

“I said, ‘Well, that’s a very good question… that’s a very difficult question to answer because we all want the movie to get made and who walks away from a green light?’ No one I know. Your job is to get the movie made.”

Baum has produced 34 films starring Jennifer Aniston, Michael Douglas and Dolly Parton and published a book last year called Creative Producing.

Fans came to Sweeney’s defense in the wake of Baum’s inflammatory comments, with one post on ‘

Another added: ‘God give me the confidence of top Hollywood producer Carol Baum who said this about Sydney Sweeney'[she’s] not beautiful and she can’t act’. Judge yourself.’

“Just accept that Sydney is all that,” a third wrote. “And you’re bitter [and] probably not relevant.’

Sweeney, who found fame in HBO’s Euphoria, has become one of Hollywood’s hottest prospects, starring in three films in the past six months: Everyone But You, Madame Web and Immaculate.

A DailyMail.com article last week detailed how the all-American, blue-eyed blonde has become a cultural phenomenon, with her unapologetic sexuality embraced by the American conservative right as evidence that woke culture is dying, if not already dead.

Hailed by Republicans as the poster child for a long-awaited cultural shift away from political correctness, an incredulous headline in one of Canada’s largest newspapers, the National Post, asked: “Are Sydney Sweeney’s Double-D Breasts Harbingers of Death from watchman?’

Sweeney produces her own films and is tipped to star in the Marvel blockbuster Spider-Woman and is about to make a remake of Jane Fonda’s brutally salacious 1968 sci-fi action film Barbarella.
