A cruise ship passenger collapsed on a vacation ship after fearing he had fallen overboard during a domestic dispute.

On Wednesday, the man had an argument with his partner on the liner Carnival Luminosa off the coast of Central Queensland.

He was believed to have fallen into the water as the altercation escalated, prompting the crew to declare a man overboard emergency.

Distraught passenger Sally remembered the horrific incident and the initial moment of panic and confusion that engulfed the ship.

“The siren went off with three ‘man overboard port’ calls,” she wrote on Facebook.

“We looked out our balcony and saw the lifebuoys go into the ocean. Orange smoke was activated when they hit the water, and they formed a bit of a line to make them easier to find.

“The ship turned very slowly and went back, but in the meantime old super detective Sally got some answers.”

Sally went to inspect the commotion when a ship’s mechanic informed her that a crew member may have fallen off the boat.

She then went to the spade, where she spoke to two other vacationers who quickly told her what had really happened.

“They said they were on deck six and could hear a man and woman yelling at each other,” she wrote.

“Then a man jumped over the rail of deck seven, landed on one of the lifeboats in front of them and hurried back to the ship.

“The woman shouted ‘man overboard’ because she thought he had jumped into the water. That is how the whole ‘man overboard’ process was set in motion.’

Sally said she was able to find out what really happened after talking to more people about the incident.

“I later heard through the grapevine that he went back upstairs to his room and started banging on his door to be let in,” she wrote.

So I guess she locked him on the porch and went out of the room, he jumped over the balcony and onto the deck below and ran back upstairs to try and get back that way.

“Reports from other people later that night were that they both ended up in jail.”

Carnival Cruise Line Vice President Kara Glamore confirmed that a passenger had climbed onto the rail.

“Fortunately he was not injured, but climbing over the rails is strictly against our safety protocols,” she said.

“The guest was in a cabin at the end of the cruise.”
