An AFL football fan has spectacularly declared the result of this year’s premiership by getting a tattoo commemorating his club’s victory months ahead of the big game.

A tradie named Tommy got the highly visible ink on his right leg in December last year depicting a Carlton player with the text ‘Premiers 2023’ underneath after having a ‘vision’ that they had won the trophy.

The AFL Grand Final will not be played for weeks, with the MCG hosting again on September 30 in the traditional 2:30pm timeslot after experimenting with a twilight event in 2022.

Tradie Tommy got the ink after having an ‘out-of-body’ experience last year where he imagined Carlton winning the award in 2023

“Last year it was Round 23, the Carlton v Collingwood game, and something came to my mind and I said to myself, ‘I don’t care if we lose today, as long as we win the grand final next year,'” Tommy told The Herald Sun.

“I had a disengagement in the last quarter. I imagined Charlie Curnow kicking the winning goal on the Punt Road side, but it wasn’t actually for that game against Collingwood, it was for the 2023 grand final.’

Tommy, who has been a member of Carlton Football Club for 25 years, then went to Carlisle Tattoo in St Kilda to fully commit to his premonition.

“Former players like Kenny Hunter, Marc Murphy, Stephen Kernahan and Brendan Fevola have seen the tattoo, as have many current players,” he said.

“I want the players to see it, hopefully it will give them an incentive.”

A member of Carlton for 25 years, Tommy said a number of former players have seen the ink

A photo of the tattoo posted on social media sparked a deluge of comments, many split over the ink.

“I don’t know… top eight for sure,” someone said.

“This is every Carlton supporter running around until the final,” said another.

“At least you can pretty easily change the 2023 to 2028,” a third added.

Carlton are currently fifth on the ladder with Collingwood in first place.

The top eight teams will compete for a place in the Grand Finals when the regular season concludes at the end of August.
