A teenager is among five people who have been rushed to hospital following a two car crash.
A Volkswagen Passat was seen ‘driving erratically’ before it crashed into an Alfa Romeo on Lygon Street at Carlton, in Melbourne’s north, on Saturday.
The Alfa Romeo then spun out of control and struck a pedestrian.
Bystanders rushed to the scene and stopped the 40-year-old driver of the Volkswagen from leaving until police arrived.

The male pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries and has been taken to hospital.
A female teenager in the Alfa Romeo has been left with life-threatening head injuries and she was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital.
The 61-year-old driver and his wife, who was another passenger, were also taken to hospital to be treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Victoria Police said the driver of the Volkswagen had been taken to hospital under police guard.
‘The driver of the Volkswagen was detained by bystanders until police arrived and has been taken to hospital under police guard with non-life-threatening injuries,’ a spokesperson said.
One local recalled hearing a loud bang and the ‘crunching of metal’ at the time of the crash.
