Carlo Ancelotti was optimistic about his chances of remaining in charge of Real Madrid next season, despite their embarrassing defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League semi-final.
Los Blancos were humiliated at the Etihad on Wednesday by Pep Guardiola’s side in a 4-0 defeat thanks to two goals from Bernardo Silva and one from Manuel Akanji, before Julian Alvarez added victory by scoring in stoppage time.
It meant City progressed to the final at Istanbul’s Ataturk Olympic Stadium on June 10 after a 5-1 aggregate victory and will face Inter Milan.
Ancelotti’s contract expires at the end of next season and there has been speculation about his future after what will ultimately be a disappointing year for Real.
They failed to regain their LaLiga title and are 14 points behind Barcelona, as they are poised to end the campaign with only the Copa del Rey title – something far from the standards set by President Florentino Perez demands.

Ancelotti has also been linked with the vacant Brazil job, with the South American nation reportedly seeing him as their primary target to replace Tite who left after the World Cup.
But when asked about his future after City’s defeat, the Italian insisted he keep his job and use the painful loss as motivation for next season.
“We lost to a team with more quality and more intensity than us,” he said La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Last year we were superior, and this year they were superior. It is a defeat that hurts a lot. They have been much better, there is nothing to do but think about next season.
“Next season I will be here to fight to win another Champions League.
‘No one doubts me. I think the president was very clear 15 days ago. What he tells me privately, I’m not going to say here.’
Despite the defeat, it was a historic night for Ancelotti as it was his 191st game as a manager in the Champions League, meaning he surpassed Sir Alex Ferguson’s record of 190 appearances in the competition.
The 63-year-old remains one of the greatest managers of the modern era, winning four European Cups alongside Real Madrid and AC Milan.
In two spells with Los Blancos, he has won 10 trophies and led 167 of his 232 games.
