Carlo Ancelotti expressed his frustration with the referee after he was booked for his angry reaction during Real Madrid’s draw with Manchester City.
Real will look to secure a place in the Champions League final in the second leg at the Etihad after neither side could find a winner on Tuesday night, with Vinicius Jr. was canceled out in the first half by Kevin De Bruyne’s well-hit equaliser.
De Bruyne had collected possession on the edge of the penalty area shortly after the hour mark and hit an emphatic effort past Thibaut Courtois, although controversy arose when the hosts claimed the ball had gone out of play beforehand.
Footage showed Bernardo Silva controlling the ball on the right flank, with his touch directly on the touchline. Ancelotti immediately raised his arms on the edge of his technical zone, although City’s move was allowed to go through.
From there, Jack Grealish and Ilkay Gundogan combined to knock off De Bruyne, leaving Ancelotti furious. The manager was then booked by official Artur Dias.

Ancelotti shared his surprise at the warning, telling BT Sport: “I don’t know why. I said [the referee]: “I was not on the field, why do you give me [the card]?”
“I think he can give the yellow card to the player, not the manager.”
Following City’s controversial goal, broadcaster beIN SPORTS shared an ‘exclusive’ image claiming that the ball had in fact gone out of play before Silva hit it back in.
A 3D image was created using various TV camera angles, although it is not final or official. Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, meanwhile, questioned whether officials had been given the technology to provide convincing evidence anyway.
‘It’s a typical situation of let’s go [to the VAR]. The VAR normally has to check whether the goal is regular or not,” Wenger said on beIN SPORTS.

“They didn’t go back far enough to check whether the ball was out or not, or they didn’t have the potential to check whether the ball was out or not.”
City dominated possession for much of the Bernabeu clash, with both teams scoring against the run of play. But despite the semi-final tie remaining well balanced, Ancelotti struck a positive note as he looked ahead to the second leg.
“Defensively we were good, [Antonio] Rudiger against [Erling] Haaland did very well,” he said. The midfield covered the position for the defense well.
‘We are satisfied. Sometimes the result doesn’t give you credit, but the execution was really good. We are happy and have a strong motivation for the next game.’
