Carlo Ancelotti could reportedly face more than four years in prison after prosecutors in Madrid accused Real Madrid’s head coach of defrauding the Treasury of more than £854,000 (€1 million), according to reports messages in Spain.

The Italian manager is said to have failed to pay the required tax during his first spell as manager of the Madrid club between 2013 and 2015, despite being registered as a resident of Spain for tax purposes.

Ancelotti is said to have declared his income from his salary at Real Madrid, but it is alleged that he omitted the money he earned from his image rights and instead transferred the amount to an entity called Vapia Limited.

The former head coach of Chelsea and AC Milan has been charged by the provincial prosecutor in Madrid with two crimes against the Spanish public treasury. MarcaA prison sentence of four years and nine months has been demanded if Ancelotti is found guilty.
