Carl Froch has touched on Anthony’s Joshua performance in last weekend’s victory over Robert Helenius, calling the performance ‘appalling’.

Helenius was a last-minute replacement for the fight at O2 in London, after Joshua’s original opponent Dillian Whyte was pulled from the fight after failing a drug test.

Joshua was victorious in the hastily arranged fight, knocking out the Finnish fighter in the seventh round, but the clash and his performance drew criticism from fans in what was seen as a disappointing display.

Former middleweight champion Froch concurred with Joshua’s performance, decrying Joshua’s victory and claiming it would not have worried the British boxer’s potential next opponent, Deontay Wilder.

“That performance was terrible, it was terrible, he was hesitant, he was gun shy.” Froch told On Fighting.

The British boxer was met with boos from the crowd before Helenius was knocked out in the seventh round

“He’s not rebuilding, he’s not learning on the job. He is 33 years old and he needs to get going with good performance.

Deontay Wilder will watch that performance and lick his lips.”

Before Joshua sent Helenius off in round 7, boos and jeers could be heard in the London venue, but after the fight the 33-year-old asked fans to ‘leave him alone’ and ignored criticism of the fight.

The Joshua camp is still hoping for a January meeting with Deontay Wilder

It’s not the first time Froch has lashed out at Joshua, back in June accusing the heavyweight of not working hard enough when he lost his unified title to Oleksandr Usyk.

Claiming that at the time, AJ was not listening to Froch’s friend and Joshua’s coach, Rob McCracken, who ended up not landing in his corner for the fight after their relationship broke down.

Joshua’s camp is still optimistic about a future fight with Wilder and is targeting a mega clash with the American in Saudi Arabia in January.
