‘He has no real LEGACY’!: Carl Froch claims Anthony Joshua is ‘over his best’ and insists the Brit would suffer a ’round one knockout’ defeat in a super fight with American heavyweight Deontay Wilder

Carl Froch took aim at Anthony Joshua in a recent interview, suggesting the British heavyweight has “no real legacy” within boxing.

Joshua recently earned his first win since December 2020, after beating US counterpart Jermaine Franklin by unanimous decision last month.

The win has helped put his career on the map, following back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, and sparked rumors of a possible superfight with Deontary Wilder in Saudi Arabia.

The two heavyweights are speculated to face each other on the undercard of Tyson Fury and Usyk’s highly anticipated fight, which could take place before the end of the year.

However, when discussing that possible fight, former British boxer Froch claimed that Joshua is ‘over his best’ and that he would struggle in that fight.

“AJ is over his best and on the slide,” Froch told the Sporting Post. “I don’t know where his motivation is now. It can’t be money, he says, but he’s made a fortune. So if you’ve earned that much, how much do you need?

“AJ has had a fantastic career financially, but maybe it bothers him that he probably has no real legacy. He is not in the Hall of Fame, unlike the Cobra!

“He won’t go down as an all-time great with the fights he’s had, losing to Ruiz and fighting back-to-back with Usyk. What is he fighting for? He said money but money is not motivation when you fight believe me. You don’t think about money when you walk up to that ring.’

“I think Deontay Wilder beats Anthony Joshua in a round one knockout because Wilder knows AJ is gun shy now,” said Froch.

“He knows he’s trying to box behind his jab, he knows he’s going to maneuver to try and stay safe. But Wilder will get him. In three minutes, Wilder will line him up and hit him with a shot, so the fight can be over in the first round.”

There is speculation that Joshua and Wilder will perform in a possible double-header event, headlined by Fury and Usyk.

Fury and Usyk held negotiations for an undisputed confrontation earlier this year, but failed to reach an agreement before the Ukrainian team backed out of talks over Fury’s demands.

Usyk’s promoter Alex Krassyuk firmly laid the blame at the Gypsy King’s door, accusing Fury of putting too many obstacles to an agreement.

However, talks are believed to have reopened sooner after – with discussions of a possible Middle East double heading later this year.

Fury, however, took to social media to stop claiming he had talks about a double headline, writing on Instagram, “I can confirm these rumors are absolute BS!”

However, Krassyuk seemed to imply that Fury was lying and that the Gypsy King was scared, writing on his own Instagram, “He’s shitting his pants again.”
