Louise Milligan has said the death of Cardinal George Pell will be “triggering” for some people.

Cardinal Pell died in Rome at the age of 81 after suffering complications from hip replacement surgery, the Vatican confirmed Wednesday.

Cardinal Pell has been at the center of sexual abuse allegations for nearly two decades and in 2018 was convicted of historical incidents that he strenuously denied.

He served 404 days in prison before the sentence was overturned on appeal by the High Court of Australia in 2020.

Milligan received a Walkley Book Award for his book Cardinal: The Rise and Fall of George Pell, which focused on his accusers.
