Cardi B reveals that she’s ‘really shy’ and ‘freezes up’ when meeting celebrities while promoting new song Bongos on Watch What Happens Live

Cardi B revealed she’s actually “really shy” and played Plead The Fifth on Monday’s episode of Watch What Happens Live.

The 30-year-old rapper looked stunning in a figure-hugging turquoise dress as she promoted her new collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion, 28, titled Bongos on the Bravo talk show.

Show host Andy Cohen, 55, was surprised to hear that the Grammy-winning rapper was shy around people.

He passed along a question from a viewer named Evelyn, who wanted to know what Cardi’s best fangirl moment was when he met another celebrity.

“Ooh, it’s a lot. When I meet another celebrity, I like to freeze,” Cardi said.

“You ever seen that Summer Walker meme where she’s like that,” Cardi said as she mimicked the 27-year-old R&B singer’s awkward ramrod pose at BET’s 2019 Soul Train Awards.

‘I always freeze. I rarely talk. Sometimes celebrities say, “Can you give her my number?” A lot of celebrities go to the people I work with and say, ‘I don’t think she likes me,'” Cardi revealed.

“And it’s like, no, I love them. I just like to be quiet. I don’t even know what to say,” Cardi said.

“I’m really shy,” she added.

‘You?’ Andy asked.

‘Yes. I really am,” Cardi said. ‘Yes.’

Andy then asked who wrote Bongo’s and Cardi took credit for writing it.

‘I really had to read the text today. That doesn’t seem like a shy person writing that song,” Andy said.

“No, no, no, I’m shy around people I don’t know,” Cardi clarified.

Andy then forwarded another viewer question, asking Cardi what it meant to her after Megan Thee Stallion recently stated that she was the only woman in the industry who has consistently supported her.

‘I couldn’t believe she thought that way about me. I thought: thank you. Because, you know, sometimes when I see some drama happening online, I want to hit her, but I’m just so shy. I’m too shy to hit her. Sometimes when you’re going through things, you just want to be left alone,” Cardi said.

“But I send my little wave messages,” she added.

“I can’t believe you’re so shy,” Andy said.

‘I know. I’ve always been like that. Just quiet. Quietly on my own time,” Cardi said.

Cardi later played the talk show’s signature game Plead The Fifth, in which guests are asked three questions and are not allowed to answer just one.

Andy first asked Cardi to name the most famous person who ended up in her social media direct messages.

“Serena Williams,” Cardi replied.

“That’s a good one,” Andy said.

Andy followed up and asked if they were “buddies.”

‘You know what? We’re not friends, but when we see each other we have real woman-to-woman conversations. She gets me,” Cardi said.

‘In a 2017 interview with Billboard magazine, you admitted that many designers refused to work with you. So you decided to buy their clothes until they realized what a fashion icon you were. What’s a designer who refused to work with you and came back years later?’, Andy asked for his second question.

Cardi hesitated and looked around before answering.

“I argue for the fifth,” she said, which refers to the Fifth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which protects against self-incrimination in criminal cases.

“I had a feeling,” Andy noted.

For his third and final question, Andy asked, “Which of your nine Grammy nominations did you feel like you were robbed of the most?”

“Bodak Yellow,” Cardi said, referring to her 2017 hit single from her debut studio album Invasion Of Privacy, which was nominated for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song at the 2018 Grammy Awards.

“Yeah, you felt like you had it before that,” Andy said.

“But then I won,” Cardi said with a smile as she referenced her Grammy win the following year for Best Rap Album.

Andy later noted that Cardi was a past supporter of U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, 82, and asked about her current thoughts on the election and whether she was paying attention.

‘I’m not paying attention. I don’t support anything. Don’t ask me anything. I’m not looking at anything. I just go with the flow. I’m like…I’m over it,” Cardi said.

Andy also forwarded a question from a viewer who wondered how much Cardi, a former strip club dancer, usually tips on a night at a strip club.

“I’m overdoing it,” Cardi admitted.

‘You do? I had a feeling,” Andy said.

‘And you know what? What I don’t like, I feel like the strippers would dance a little harder back then. Now it seems like the girls don’t even climb the pole,” Cardi said.

“Are they lazy?” Andy asked.

“They’re lazy,” Cardi said. ‘They’re lazy. And I spend money like shelving.”

Cardi and Megan Thee Stallion will perform Bongos on Tuesday at the MTV Video Music Awards to be held at Newark’s Prudential Center in New Jersey.
