In an incident captured on police bodycam and published on TMZ on Monday, officers responded to Cardi B and Offset's home in the early morning hours of August 10 in response to reports that someone had been shot there.
Law enforcement officials were able to speak with Offset's uncle Derrick Cephus, who told them he was a babysitter for the famous then-couple, and that no one else had been at the property recently.
Offset's uncle then called the Migos rapper to inform him what happened, keeping him on speaker phone while police were present.
Offset told his uncle, “That's a fake call, we're in LA… that's fake.”
An irritated Offset told his uncle that he and Cardi B had been in Los Angeles at the time and that they were not in any danger.
Offset's uncle asked officers if they knew the source of the report, and police said they had a number and would investigate further.
The police reported the incident and left the building.
The musical stars are the latest to be targeted in a hoax, in which a bad actor reports to authorities a fictional violent incident taking place in the celebrity's home in an attempt to provoke a response from authorities.
Well-known names who have been the target of similar hoaxes in the past include Pharrell, Nicki Minaj, Paris Hilton and representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, as well as the Playboy Mansion.

Cardi B and Offset, parents of two – daughter Kulture Kiari Cephus, five, and son Wave Set Cephus, two – appeared to have split last month.
On New Year's Eve, both Offset and the New York City native, whose full name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, performed separately at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach.
The Bongos artist then announced on social media that she and Offset had a romantic reunion to ring in the new year, but they still weren't back together.
“Was I dating my baby daddy, yeah,” Cardi said. 'Did I have it on New Year's Eve, yes. I needed d*** on New Year's Eve. I feel like we were swinging on New Year's Eve, having a good time.”
Cardi emphasized that while they had a one-time fling, they were not fully reunited, tweeting, “Not us together.. us together if I say so, not if you THINK so.”
