Cara Delevingne says her sobriety has helped her mentally cope with the aftermath of the fire at her Studio City, California, mansion nearly four months ago.

The 31-year-old actress/model said in an interview published Sunday that being sober and present during the traumatic event ultimately helped her recover emotionally.

“It sucks, but everyone was safe and, like with everything, if I hadn’t been sober, I would still be reeling from that,” Delevingne said. The times‘It would still affect me very deeply.’

The London-born woman said that while she is saddened by the fire, her focus is on her life and not on the grief over what happened.

Delevingne, who said she decided to change her life in 2022, says she can feel the emotional differences over the past few years.

“I always thought drugs and alcohol helped me cope… but they didn’t, they kept me sad and super depressed,” she said. “I feel like I have my power back and I’m not controlled by other things.”

No one was seriously injured in the fire, as Delevingne was in London at the time of the fire, part of the cast of Cabaret in the West End. Her pets also appeared to be fine.

Delevingne said that despite the setback, she plans to remain based in the US and not move back to England.

Los Angeles Fire Department officials said the cause of the fire was “undetermined” after an investigation, according to TMZand added that there was no evidence of foul play.

According to the authorities, no one saw anything related to the fire. There is also no forensic evidence that could provide any clues to the investigation.

Delevingne’s parents, Pandora and Charles, were asked on the day of the incident what had caused the fire. Her father Charles blamed “electrical” issues, adding that “something had fallen on a power line” while the area was experiencing “very windy” conditions.

Pandora said at the time that she was worried about her daughter after the house fire.

“I think she’s devastated,” Pandora said. “She had everything in her house, her whole life. She built it, she made it. She has everything in it.”

Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange said March 15 that one firefighter was hospitalized in fair condition with an unspecified injury, and that a person inside the home suffered minor smoke inhalation, the AP.

Prange said that when firefighters arrived at the home, the fire was already raging in the back of the house, with a room and the attic already engulfed in flames.

After the fire department evacuated the house, they took up a defensive position to fight the fire. At one point, the roof collapsed.

According to Prange, firefighters spent more than two hours extinguishing the fire.

Delevingne took to Instagram Stories to express her gratitude to the emergency workers who provided assistance after the fire.

“I want to thank all the firefighters and other people who came to help,” she said.

Since rising to fame as a model, Delevingne has turned her attention to acting, landing major roles in films like 2016’s Suicide Squad and 2017’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.

She has appeared in TV series such as Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building in 2022 and the FX series American Horror Story in 2023.
