Car seat manufacturer MaxiCosi is recalling 14 different models – a total of 54,900 seats – over fears they could become loose in cars – DO YOU own one?

Car seat manufacturer MaxiCosi has recalled 14 different models due to a faulty mechanism.
A total of 59,400 of the child seats have been recalled due to fears they could become detached in cars and seriously injure young people after they “failed” to meet federal safety requirements.
The company issued the urgent warning, writing: “Dorel Juvenile Group has decided to replace all models of Safety 1st onBoard 35 SecureTech and Maxi-Cosi Coral XP, Mico XP, Mico XP Max and Mico Luxe+ rear-facing infant car seats and Maxi-Cosi Infant Car Seat Base with Self-Retracting Lower Anchorage Systems does not meet the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 213 ‘Child Restraint Systems’.
They said all affected US customers will receive a free replacement base as soon as it becomes available.

Dorel Juvenile Group, owner of MaxiCosi, said consumers can safely continue to use these car seats with the base installed using the seat belt, or with shell installation only using the seat belt.
The seats affected by the recall were all produced between May 1, 2020 and February 28, 2023.
Customers have been told they can identify which car seat they own by checking the label on the shell and base of the seat.
So far, the seats believed to be problematic are infant car seats with self-retracting locking systems in their base.
Customers who purchased car seats affected by the recall will receive a notification via email or letter, the company said.
The car seat company says they have helped carry more than 50 million babies home from the hospital after they are born around the world.
Their popular models can be purchased at Walmart nationwide.
