The film marks his debut in the MCU, reprising the role originally played by the late Oscar winner William Hurt.

Hurt, who died in March 2022 at age 71 from complications of cancer, played the role in a series of films, including 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, 2019’s Avengers: Endgame and 2021’s Black Widow, according to iMDb.

The character Ross was Secretary of State in his last film in the franchise and is now President as the new film begins.

The storyline is timed to follow the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, a streaming series on Disney+, the outlet reported.

In Avengers: Endgame, the original Captain America, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), renounced his superhero status, clearing the way for Wilson to evolve into a patriotic hero.

Mackie said Entertainment weekly of the new film’s storyline: ‘It made more sense that it would be more of an action movie about espionage than a movie about aliens and planes coming through portals and stuff.

“Even though I’ve been in so many movies and seen them all, this movie gives Sam the opportunity to really establish himself as a true action movie star and Avengers.”

He added: ‘This movie is definitely a reset. It really establishes the idea of what this universe is and what this universe is going to be.

“I think with these films you get a clear, new image of where Marvel is going, just like they did with Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”

The cast of this top film, directed by Julius Onah, includes Danny Ramirez, Tim Blake Nelson, Shira Haas, Carl Lumbly and Liv Tyler.

Marvel boss Kevin Feige said during the showcase on Thursday that the film parallels the 2014 film Captain America: The Winter Soldier in that it has a ’70s cinematic feel. He called it “another fast-paced, relatively grounded action thriller” that doesn’t involve aliens, Variety reported.

Captain America: Brave New World is scheduled to hit theaters on February 14, 2025. It will be a critically acclaimed film from Marvel, after recent films such as Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Eternals, and The Marvels were disappointing in terms of reviews and box office.

According to Variety, the film’s release date was pushed back due to last year’s entertainment industry strikes.
